Replacing Restraint Control Module

The airbag is on on my 2007 L322, diagnostics show a "U3000-49 Control Module - Internal Electronics Failure" message and the manual suggests replacing the module if a clear does not get rid of the message.

I bought an apparently good secondhand module and put it in, but it reported the same fault.

I send the module back for a refund and booked the Range Rover into a garage to get a professional opinion. The garage told me the problem is definitely with the module and that the reason the replacement had not worked was that it had needed programming for the vehicle.

I was not happy with this verdict and to be charged for the diagnostics when I had provided them with the same details, but also suspicious as I do not see why the replacement module would report the same error just because it needed programming to the vehicle and also I have read on here and other forums about people replacing the module and it immediately fixing the problem, never any mention of having to reprogram.

Has anyone successfully replaced this without reprogramming it?

I've just bought an 06 L322 - on test driving it I noticed the airbag light was on, the garage offered to put a fresh MOT on the car for me, and fix the airbag light issue as part of that.

They did exactly as you did - diagnosed a faulty control module, ordered a second hand replacement only to find it didnt fix the problem.

The modules even say on them 'must be reprogrammed to the vehicle' dont they?

It does say that but I have read a number of posts about people just replacing them that I wanted clarification. Did your garage try reprogramming it? or just do as I did and replace it?

And yes quite a coincidence that we are both in Cheltenham Smile

The module definitely has to be coded to the vehicle using some quite expensive diagnostic equipment, a good Indy will be able to do this for you but if not the main agent can, it usually costs around £70 to have them coded. Not unreasonable when you consider the price of the equipment needed Thumbs Up

Thanks Dave.

Independent near me is charging £99 on top of the £60 for confirming the error I told them was correct...

Which garage is that?

Mate of mine who has a Sport recommends B G Landrovers out in Ross on Wye. I was going to check them out as I think the turbos on mine are on the way out, along with about a dozen other problems 😂 Pikey by name, not by nature Smile
