MOT Extension - Warning !

Like many others I had an automatic 6-month MOT extension.

Being prudent (& knowing one of the jacking points is borderline) I took the FF in a month before the MOT ran out to give me time to sort any problems out.

However, what I did not know was that if a vehicle fails its MOT on extension the extension is automatically cancelled & you have no MOT at all !

So, off the road & into a bodyshop to have my wallet emptied.

Apologies to those that are already aware. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

Just for info, I believe that his applies to any vehicle that has an MOT, not just the extended ones. It seems that any car that fails an MOT effectively has the remainder of the previous MOT cancelled.

Shocked

I guess it makes sense - I'd just never thought about it - MOT failure means your car is deemed not roadworthy

I understand you're allowed to drive directly home from a test - and back again to a pre-arranged MOT

And to a pre arranged garage for a repair.

In the good old days, you could drive about on your existing MOT if you took it in a month early and it failed. Now though, with the central computer system, the failure is captured and logged.....

If the fail is due to something "dangerous" you are no longer allowed to drive the car away to get it fixed and then come back for a re-test. You could have it trailered away, but my take on this is that I'd only get an MOT done somewhere that I'd be happy mending the dangerous fail item. Only Range Rovers since 1988
