My supercharged does similar and I believe mine is gearbox related not the front diff.

I had a similar issue with my 2007MY RR S/C last year. I changed the auto gearbox oil and filter. It sorted the problem out and I have covered about 9000 miles since. I would say that I did not have any mechanical noise only the jolt. |

Could well be the fluid thinning they drop into gear as you slow down so it could be a solenoid not working properly my guess is gearbox - mine does an odd jolt into 4th from top on kick down when the gearbox is really hot same thing I think |

sounds like driveline shunt , common on many auto boxed motors , try oil and filter first as suggested , cheapest thing to try |

Thanks for all replies. I will try oil change and filter as suggested. Mine has done 126,000 miles.

I had an oil leak form the gearbox so had gearbox oil flushed and changed but still there so think mine is a solenoid issue or mechanical issue that can be driven around and just living with it for the moment as not getting any worse.

I had a similar thing in my TD6, the pressure actuator solenoid on 1-2 was on it's last legs and I also had a lot of play in the splines on the front propshaft / diff coupling. The problem improved when the diff coupling was changed, but it never actually went away, and it still gave a donk as it changed down to 1st when slowing up gently.... Strangely in never did it if you stood of the stop pedal, only if you took things easy... which would drive you nuts in a traffic jam moving at 15 mph, I used to lock it in 1st Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Change oil and filter, but you MUST also have the adaptive values reset. That takes up all the wear in the clutches in the box.My box did the same and a double flush, filter and reset did the trick 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4 |

On the ZF box it can be done with a MSV2 tool. Not sure if it can be done with the GAP tool.It can be done manually as well,do a search on the D3 forum,it is there.Sorry that I can not be more spesific.

Mine doesn't thump when selecting D or R, in fact the gear selection is very smooth. What is most irritating about this jolt is that it doesn't happen all the time and sometimes it doesn't do it at all but when it does, it is really annoying. I tis irritating because if it happened all the time, it would be easier to diagnose. When I have washed it at the car wash and included a underbody wash and wax as part of the programme, it doesn't do the jolt for some time after. When I first did this, I though I had cured it but a day or two later, it reminded me that it was still there.
