United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 V8 Barolo Black
Just bought a Range Rover!

Hi, Ive just bought a Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TD with 85k on the clock. It has a full service history but not all from landrover dealers. There are no other receipts of work so I have no idea what has been done to it in the past.

I am looking for advice please on what I should get serviced/checked so I can help the car last.

I was thinking about a gearbox service but could anyone recommend anything else?

Many thanks

Firstly, welcome to the fold. I know you will be happy with your purchase.
I would suggest first to give it a good blast up the motorway and a few twisty bits. Listen for knocks and rattles. Clears the DPF out on a run.
Main thing on the TDV8' are turbo issues. Usually hoses and seals
What age is the car?
What tyres are on it?

And once you've done that, open your wallet and wave goodbye to whatever will go in there in the future! Laughing Tony

Many thanks for the welcome and reply and the advice. its 2012 Westminster with a mixture of continentals and some aftermarket tyres.

They have a few miles left on the, but will replace later with some correct Pirellis.

I was so excited to get the car I've done 400 miles in it in the first week, including a couple of long runs. No nasty knocks or squeaks so far thankfully. I'll have a check of the turbo hoses thanks.

Turbo issues tend to be the 3.6. The main issue the 4.4 has is the oil cooler leaking in the V and oil going down the back of the engine.

Apart from oil on the floor....and checking the level regularly it's a difficult one to see.

You could always go for the easy option like I did.
Buy a Supercharged! Tony

Whip off engine cover and pollen filter box. Get on a step ladder and look in the V behind oil filter and cooler housing. Also it will drip down bellhousing onto back of engine undertray.

And, unless you can find documentation it has already been done, I would change all fluids including engine oil, diffs, transfer case and gearbox with filters.

Aaaah, another Westminster....nice!
My thoughts are the same as jackie-o.
I think most members on here could be classed as 'anal' when it comes to servicing & have their RR's spot on, I'm right up there with them.
Treat your new purchase like a 'blank canvas'. When I bought my Westie last year [12 months ago this week] I had a major service done at my local Indy, Diff oils, transfer box oil, engine oil & most important I had a Megaflush gearbox service.
There is info on this forum about the difference between a Megaflush & just a gearbox oil & filter service, worth looking at.

If you crawl under the car & look at where the rear of the engine is then look down at the exhaust, if there's oil hanging around then chances are you've got oil cooler problems. I pulled up on a petrol forecourt one day & there was a haze of burnt oil wafting up from the bonnet.......oil cooler!

These l322's are the dogs danglers, no doubt about it, but they need constant love & attention. It's taken me best part of a year to get mine how I want it, so be prepared to part with the odd penny. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Welcome to the madhouse...Forum!
Main points to check are:
Oil Cooler, as stated in posts above look for oil leaks around the V, on the engine undertray and back of engine. I had this leak and just required new O-Rings and Oil Cooler Gaskets.
Intake Plenum Hoses. Look at the four small sections of rubber hose that connect into the Intake Plenum, the original LR ones often split / perish and lead to Restricted Performance problems.
Climate seats, can get problems with the Heated Seat (mainly on driver's seat) function, caused by split / damaged ducting which leads to the peltier cell failing.

Apart from the above, the 4.4 TDV8 is an awesome Fattie, I went from a TD6 that I owned for eight years to a 4.4 TDV8 Westie late last year and the difference is unbelievable!

Finally, I would recommend you invest in a GAP IID Tool, they are absolutely invaluable and will repay themselves many times over. Thumbs Up
