Hot, as in, "oily hot" then one would suspect the infamous oil cooler leak & associated 'O' rings etc.

Doesn’t smell like oil burning and it’s not used a drop in 4K miles. Anyone know if there is a gearbox temp monitor on IID tool? 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

I'm sure there is - it's part of the fill-level procedure (at least on the 3.6). 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

I would put the bonnet lid in the vertical service position.

I used to get a hot antifreeze/coolant smell from mine. I had a lot of trouble bleeding all the air out, but I've also put on a new expansion tank cap and it doesn't smell anymore. Might be worth checking coolant level? |

Here are pictures, can’t see anything wet. There is a faint coolant smell around the expansion tank but only when you’re right on top of it. No dampness anywhere. May need to get underneath

As Kevin has mentioned the expansion cap curing his "smell" it might be worth getting a new one if not too expensive, it may be that it's lost some of it's strength and is venting more than it should, hence the smell. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE |

Coops, i think you should take her for a run then check the temp of each wheel and see if one is getting hotter than the others? This could point to a sticking caliper as mentioned above...
