Hi all, so I'm trying to find out what is going on with the car lately - any and all help appreciated!

2012 RR westminster 4.4tdv8 has started intermittently blowing white smoke from the engine bay. Smoke itself appears to be coming from the rear of the engine. Seems to happen when it is a hot day. Has happened maybe 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Have just gone over 100k on the clock

Temperature gauge is apparently normal and right where it should be. No warning signs anywhere and oil level has not moved on the sensor since the last service.

There are a few drops of oil under the car where I park it at home but nothing major. No strange noises to report from the engine at all and performance seems unaffected.

Smoke has ranged from a small/barely noticeable amount to quite a thick worrying cloud on 2 other occasions. Smells like a hot engine - not diesel smell or oil like.

Use the car for work doing long miles so I'm a little worried to say the least!

Yep, sounds like that for sure. Either O rings and/or oil cooler gaskets.
Whip off engine cover, remove pollen filter box wit 2 nuts, slide out box. Stand on a step and look down behind the oil filter housing from back of engine looking forwards.
Personally, I'd take it to a specialist for diagnosis. Where are you located?

O rings only = cheap fix. Oil cooler gaskets = a few quid for gaskets plus labour. I threw a new oil cooler on at same time for piece of mind for a couple of hundred quid.

Make sure you don’t have oil in your coolant or coolant in your oil, due to oil cooler issues, as above.

It’s a heat exchanger so the water cools the oil.....

Have a look underneath for it running down the back of the engine and spreading underneath.

I agree, the usual culprits.

Our Westie did the same.

I replaced the O rings and oil cooler gaskets my self. Genuine LR gaskets, in all about £30 odd quid. VS maybe up to £1k by a garage? 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior
