i went out to my car the other day and as i opened the door i heard a high pitch whistling noise from under the dash on the drivers side i checked all the doors was shut and turned the ignition on and off a couple of times and the noise still would not go then as i started to drive off the noise stopped....then yesterday it done it again and did not stop until id drove about 2 miles ..does anybody know what it is as its very annoying "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

I think mine did something similar about a week ago. I turned ignition off and on again and it stopped. Hasn't done it again since. FFRR TD6 HSE

i dont think so as it sounds electrical like a buzzer for when the lights are left on or something....if it does it again ill try to record the noise...whatever it is its behind the dash on the drivers side "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

It could be the air temp sensor motor in the dash

a bit like a whistle ? Like a little soccer referee is sitting in the dash? It´s the PC fan at the bottom of the black box in the engine compartment. If you unbolt the lid of the box you will see the capsuled air fan at the bottom. Don´t spray WD40 into the little hole, better use Teflon or Siliconespray. It will help for the next month until it will be colder weather again... XJC, RRV8, Series1 86 and 107% of real pleasure

thanks guys ill check that out...the noise is for sure coming from under the drivers side of the dash and would it only happen now and then ...the noise you described is spot on "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

i had similar noise, turned out to be an old parking ticket stuck deep in a top vent. 2004 black Vogue TD6

I would have to agree with delsilencio //
Mine was doing this on and off for a couple of days but now seems to have stopped, I'm sure it will return so I'll have to get round to putting a new fan in .. Cost's around 120 pounds with the vat ... LRdirect part number should prob be YQO000030
It should be an easy swap out I guess..
