Hi Paul. I'm always interested to know why people try to do a particular repair on their car. Why do you think there is something wrong with the egr? Any symptoms can help others sort there's out if you sort yours. Or am I being nosey. Lol. |

Removing the EGR valve requires the oil cooler and filter housing to be removed, which once removed exposes unfiltered oil-ways. If any foreign material gets into those unfiltered oil-ways then the engine is at risk of being destroyed, so I suggest that you don't undertake the task of removing the oil cooler and EGR valve without good reason. |

Thank You for the questions regarding the egr issue . I was just wanting to know how to get to the egr valve to see if it was clogged if all else failed . I get restricted performance at completely random times usually when started when hot , never from cold only after being left for a while when out somewhere .

Have you done a HIGH pressure smoke test? That will highlight any leaks. My Pax side inlet manifold had a tiny crack that only became visible with the Hi pressure test. Also as your engine warms up, any tears/cracks/holes will expand making the RP more likely to occur. |

9 of 10 times restricted performance on the 4.4TDV8 is caused by air system leaks.

You could try unplugging the connector on the EGR valve to see if the same code appears and refitting the connector may overcome a possible poor connection. However as EGR doesn't occur when the engine is cold it does seem that the valve may be sticky.

Paul, what was the outcome of this? Did you end up doing further troubleshooting or did it sort itself out?
