Trim under side Grill loose - like an air brake!?

Hi Folks,

Hoping for a bit of help please, last night I was driving home on the motorway just under 70mph and started hearing a sound like an airbrake had been deployed.

obviously - twitchy bum at all at the prospect of deploying wallet, calling AA becoming the stereotype range rover on the side of the road for all and sundry to see. etc etc.

no warning lights or anything like - no decrease in performance or any other indicator of anything wrong. a mile or so on the noise dissipates dies off and doesn't return.

I did a quick walk around when i got home and there was nothing obvious apart from the driver side trim just under the side grill that also holds the mud guard on. This was quite loose on the top:

And looks like there is a trim clip missing on top right:

I had a quick look at a similar thread about removing the trim panel in this area - hoping for some advice on the best fix/way forward.

as an aside i've also plugged in the iiD tool in and there were no relevant faults - and none triggered at the time that corresponds with hearing the noise

all thoughts and comments very much appreciated.

best regards,

James.

thanks - yes certainly good for when i take it all apart to have a look.

some reference pictures of anyone else's car - 11 or 12 plate would also be super helpful if there are any volunteers?

Cheers.

That’s the point James, when the bolt is loose you can remove the panel sir...

Where that panel joins the wing, force the wheels arch liner away and look inside with a torch and you will see the 8mm head of the fixing, with a big penny washer! That’s what you need to tighten whilst holding/pushing the lower panel in line .👍

Exactly where your thumb is in the last picture 👍

Contact - thank you! have located the captive nut - 8mm headed bolt and penny washer confirmed missing on both sides.

Any advice on a part number to replace?

Appreciate the help.
