Just had my aircon blower fan replaced in December after the old one burnt out. Worked ok during the winter but I never tried it on max blower power as I normally only need this in the summer when I need to cool the interior quickly. In the winter I leave the blower on auto as it's usually enough to get the car warm reasonably quickly.

After not using the car for 18 weeks due to lockdown I got in on Sunday and hit Max to cool the warm interior and was met with a horrible noise once the blower got to maximum speed that sounded like I was in a sawmill. It happens both when turning up the blower to maximum manually and after pressing the Max button.

Any ideas what's happening here? Obviously the car will be going back to the dealer to get it sorted. They say they can't see the problem without taking the dash to bits again. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black

To me that sounds like the fan is catching on something. They should fix that for zero charge! Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

i wonder if a dead leaf has got in there somewhere....other than that it could be the fan bearings. ... - .- -.

It's possible the fan and motor are ok but at higher speed it's causing something nearby to resonate.

Indeed, that is the case. The dealer took the fan out and tested it in isolation and discovered that one of the fan blades is broken and a loose part is hitting the casing when it rotates at full speed. They had another in stock and after testing that prior to installation they found out that it had the same flaw. So another has been ordered and they've also opened an issue with LR as it seems to be a faulty batch. Providing the new part doesn't suffer the same flaw it will be read by the middle of next week.
