When I first got my car it was 2.5 years old and I don't believe the tow bar had ever been used. The socket didn't move down automatically when the bar was deployed as it was seized up and it had to be moved down by hand. This was due to lack of use and after plenty squirting of WD40 the spring mechanism loosened up and now it drops down fully when the bar is deployed.

Mine did this too after a couple of years from new...even after regular use. The fittings are just mild steel with poor corrosion protection and are exposed to the weather.

The mechanism is available separately to the towing electrics so is not too badly priced... Changed plenty of them from 3yrs old! |

Rather than start a new thread I’ll revitalise this one, my towbar doesn’t seem to want to deploy in this cold weather will liberally squirting with WD40 cut it or do I need a new mechanism for a permanent fix? Geoff |

During Lockdown - never, but usually about a couple of times a month. Bike rack not towing. Geoff |

Could it be frozen Geoff? I have a vision now of french lorry drivers in winter lighting bonfires 🔥 under their diesel tanks when stuck out in weather! |

It did it once before, nice warm weather, but I think I will wait a while until it gets warmer before putting my hand in my pocket, I know what will happen if I light a fire under the car |

So the towbar won't reset, buttons keep on flashing buzzer keeps on sounding - methinks fuses need to be pulled. Looks like two of them any advance on two. OR Can I switch something off/reset with the IDTool?
