United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Indus Silver
2003MY to 2008 or 2010?

Some of you may be aware that I have been looking to replace my beloved 2003 FFRR with a 2008MY TDV8 Vogue SE but have yet to find the right one Confused

What I really want is a 2010MY TDV8 Vogue SE which is a big leap forward in "toys" and sadly price Big Cry

Problem is I have found a 2010MY which is almost perfect in every way and will definately keep the "permagrin" for another 5 years Cool Its also very good value but will obviously cost me quite a bit more each month than the "pre-approved" budget. Now we are not talking divorce or anything as serious as that but it will stretch things for a bit Rolling Eyes

So do I "live for today" and go for my dream car or hold out for the right 2008MY but with the possible regret every time I see a 2010MY Sad

All sensible advice on both models greatfully received Bow down

Can't take it with you mate, if it's manageable, I'd go for the 2010. Have you thought about the depreciation when the new models arrives? 2006 Mercedes CLS
1991 Retro-style Mini
But really finding it hard to fight the urge for a S/C...

I would also buy the car that has already depreciated loads.
However if you have the money and love the 2010 then I doubt you'll be disappointed if you get that one. FFRR TD6 HSE

I say screw it - go for the 2010 model.

As others have said - you only live once and lets face it , if it ends in divorce you will still have your dream car! CURRENT : FFRR 2012 4.4 TDV8

Thank you to all that have taken the time to reply so far, it seems you are divided with your opinions Laughing I must admit it is a little disappointing that this thread has been viewed over 100 times but only 5 people have taken the time to press a button and vote Sad It makes no real difference to me but I thought it might me fun to know Confused

As for the divorce thing that really isn't an issue it was more of a "tongue in cheek" comment, I have the blessing of SWMBO and the decision is really up to me, and even the extra cost is really just a question of how you divide up the cake and then of course eat it Wink

Now as for depreciation that is definately a "if you need to ask" case if ever there was one Shocked I am not aware anyone buys a FFRR as a sound financial investment which ever model or age you go for Rolling Eyes

Do fellow forum members who have had both actually think the new dash, nav system, LED lights etc of a 2010MY is a worthwhile step forward?

I will sleep on it over the weekend but I'm pretty certain I know which way I'll be going Whistle

Not really knowing your situation it's a difficult one.
Would I buy any late model FFRR with a year or so till the new model arrives? No.

But what your heart wants and what your head wants can be two different things.
It's easy to say "live for today" but then you're stuck with the old model in a few years which'll have lost how much and the new shape will be sitting in showrooms...

Maybe my situation will give you an example?

I sold the 08 FFRR. I should never have let the 06 go. It did what I needed and had better seats which is what I missed the most. Plus it had proven reliability.

But I got wrapped up in the whole "must have the new model/engine/spec" thing.
Could I afford it? Yes.
But I just kept looking out of the window at the TDV8 knowing it'd cost me nearly twice what the TD6 did and it wasn't even nearly twice the car, yet it looked the same.

I think that's my point, I'd wait for the new model. Thumbs Up

Fox has hit the nail on the head,

if you want a 2010 or 2011, the sensible time to buy is not now, but in 12 or so months when the new model is launched - unless depreciation is no issue

Agree with above - hold off one more year and buy a 2010 when it's lost another 20%!

Ok so I've gone with the majority - well its the way I always intended to go Very Happy

Like my last car I always intended to keep my next one for another 4-5 years so short term depreciation was never an issue, plus I consider the current model a massive step forward for me, in fact if a 2011MY was an option I am not sure I would want one as I like having a gear stick if only to caress and hold onto from time to time Rolling Eyes

Its a TDV8 Vogue SE with the required RSE and overpriced autobiography wood Shocked 20,000 miles, registered in 2009 so I still have a nice chunk of warranty left after which I will consider my options. Just need to sort a tow bar for the gee gee's and the side vents.

Very much looking forward to picking it up next week in time for the Easter break and it will be a sad day when I eventually part with the old one, when I decide exactly what to do with it and more importantly how much I want for it Confused
