Ok, poll time....

Option 1

Don't buy another Range Rover, you have better things to do with your life than fix it all the time....

Option 2

Buy the cheapest one you can find, (£8,000 to 10,000) that will probably have 120,000 to 150,000 miles, do whatever paint it needs, change all the bushes underneath, deep service and make it mint for a couple of grand but it's still a highish miler

Option 3

Don't be a tight git and spend £15,000 on a nice 60,000 to 70,000 mile one in mintish condition but probably still end up changing a lot of rubber bushes underneath... maybe...

Last year I did 10,000 miles in current car with 0 issues (Lexus LS) but that was in 6 months as it sat on the drive for 6 months, so this year maybe 15 to 20,000 miles so the new one will get used a lot...

I'm leaning towards 2 as at least I know it will be totally sorted for me, now, but when I sell it, it will be a good condition very high miler and worth...??

No Brainer Option 2

I recon a cheaper one will depreciate less.....you will prob have to do bushes on lower mileage one anyway. Both will be getting on for 10 years old so might have paint and stuff to do on a low miler....

Will probably need new wheels and a bit of work with the suspension as it states it’s undercarriage damage.
Some side lower panels needing dealing with.
Not sure how long they have had it, or what reserve is as it is very low price at the minute.

I went for option 3, on the assumption that if you went for option 2 you'd just end up giving the spare cash for repairs to your your solicitor for the impending divorce, so no money left over to repair it, in which case it'll sit on the drive alongside yourself.... broke

Option 2 and you can fix the faults on mine just to get up to speed again

My opinion for what its worth sir, the late model 322's are going to be squeezed more & more by the depreciation on 405's so... I believe there may be more monies lost than you currently believe Pete...

I would go for option 2.5. That is what I did.

The bottom end has some serious crap in it, I've been looking at most of them before the lock down. But likewise on option 3 there are some seriously overprices cars as well.

The ideal spot is somewhere in the middle

I’ve been keeping an eye on things over the past couple of months, as I’d love to consider a L405 in a year, or so, should my current status stay the same, post-Covid. The lower end of the market, 13 plates with highish mileage cars seem to be taking a real kicking, price wise.

I do have concerns about early 405s that have new model issues, so another eye’s is on a late, roll out model L322s.

Then there’s the petrol vs diesel debate that still rumbles on, even now, it could be that, come the time, the 5.0SC L405 could well be an option.

As to the original question, I’d go for option 2, since option 3 never guarantees spending less money in the future and a lot overlap is likely to exist between 2 & 3. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
