6HP26 intermittent fault after filter, sleeve and fluid

Hi all,

So a couple of weeks ago I had the car at my friends shop (he is a bmw mechanic with 25 years experience) whilst the 4.2sc is not his specialty the gearbox is a derivative of his bread and butter.

Before the it went in gearbox was all good. I bough all zf oils/filters and lr sleeve.

Now he changed it all and all worked fine do a couple of runs but the. I started it and I had the EML on the park brake light and limited gears and no range change faults come up.

Plugged in the iidtool read the faults and the transmission module had 5 faults losing communication to various modules and those modules had a fault losing comms back to the transmission...

I cleared the fault started again... they came back so I actually reversed it a metre or two turned it off cleared them and has been fine for around 5/6 journeys...

I though maybe a glitch or something but.... today exactly the same and I had to faff the same way to cure it?

Anyone heard of this before and what’s likely the fault?

Many thanks Current stable:

I would try removing the multi-connector plug and then reconnecting it, to make sure that it’s seated properly. They are quite fussy.

This is who I was hoping especially for a comment from - so do you mean just unplugged the cable from the outside of the box and plug it back in? As in a 5 minute job? And check that gap is around 3mm?

Of course it is in a really easy place to get at and to see exactly what is going on Twisted Evil .

Hi guys - took the plug off and it had some oil on it must have been from the change cleaned it and reseated it and so far so good but it was intermittent from cold so not sure yet. Interestingly that gap in the pic is more like 7mm but it feels solid??? Current stable:
