2 door Range Rover

Hi all

Just a quick question for any of the Classic Range Rover guru’s on here.

When did Land Rover stop building 2 door Range Rovers? Were any 2 door Rangies fitted with the GM Diesel engine straight from the factory?

Thanks

Jim

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Baltic Blue

I was admiring a very nice 2 door LHD model fitted with a 2.5 VM diesel last week in Portugal.
Sorry, but I have no idea what year it was, but I couldn’t see a single bit of rust anywhere on it.

The 2 door in UK is around 81, unless you find a CSK which was 91.

The 2 door vm lhd where popular in Europe, never an option in rhd in uk Remember:- amateurs built the ark

Globally the 2 door continued in production until late 1993 early 1994. The Italian VM diesel 2.4 was fitted from 1986 until 1989. Then it was increased to 2.5 and marketed as the Turbo D. I am not aware of the factory using GM diesels, in the late 70s Land Rover did collaborate with Perkins on a V8 diesel based on the petrol V8 engine ( project iceberg) but it was cancelled as the blocks kept failing. In 1992 the VM was replaced by the 200tdi then in 1994 by the 300tdi. Hope this helps.

You might find the odd 2-door registered later than 1981, my first RR was a 2-door Classic registered in 1983 (A reg), maybe it had been sitting for a while unregistered. Only Range Rovers since 1988

2 doors went on until the 1986 model year in the UK (CSK aside), they certainly didn’t sell many over here after the 4 door was introduced. Last 2 door was built in January 1994 - a van, for Portugal.

2 doors elsewhere

We have a lot of CKD 2 doors here.
I bought a very neglected 1973 model last year...

My personal green Rangie Maggie was made from a 1983 V8 (burned) a 1991 VM and a 200 tdi Discovery.

Don't forget that there were also many 200tdi 2 doors around. But they go for too much money, hence I did the other project.

From 1992 onwards they were never VM, only 200 tdi.

Here no diesel Rangie was imported officially, but there are 2 French and 3 Italian ones in the country. Not counting mine, I hope to have it back running soon after a total restoration

Here you can see how we towed the project all the way from Cartago.
