4 wheel removal?

Looking for a little advice....

I need to remove all 4 wheels from my 2015 L405 to take them for refurb, having read a lot of forum information I still don't have a definitive answer so, is it safe to suspend the car on axle stands for a day or so and if so where would you place them?

TIA

Thanks Stan, I’m still not sure if it’s safe to jack and remove all the wheels at the same time?

The dealers put them on a ramp and take all the wheels off when doing a major service, nothing to worry about.. Thumbs Up Pete

Loosen the wheel nuts a fraction before you lift it and you will be fine....exactly the same as using a 2post ramp.

If putting it on four stands, even at a conservative 2ton per stand that would be a 2 ton vehicle on 8 tons of stands. So plenty of SWL.

But IMHO axle stands are a bit different to a ramp set up.

Stands are say 2 feet vertical but a 2 post ramp is nearly zero vertical before the horizontal arms of the ramp transfer the weigh outwards. In other words the stands could have less lateral stability.

The answer may be in your back garden however, sleepers or similar heavy timber could be used in addition to 4 x stands.

I'd be running some timbers in fore/aft direction and some left/right direction. Leave your trolley jack under it too.

It would probably be fine on 4 stands but it's prudent to over allow. Belt and braces and you should be fine.

. Cheers, Greg

If you use a trolley jack make sure it can move on the surface it is placed on, with one end of the car on stands the jack will have to move forwards on its wheels as you jack the last end up, if it can't it can tip the other end off the axle stands as the arc of the jack pulls the car towards you... if that makes sense..!!

I had my old one on four stands very often and had no bother, it is as secure as anything

Don't start it whilst on stands, the suspension will try to level and it "can" upset the system, if you need to leave a door open and it should not move.. Pete

Greg,
I was more thinking about the suspension dangling in free air once his wheels are removed., rather than SWL of the axle stands etc.

Thanks guys for your responses I feel a bit more confident with it now, just out of interest would this be the axel stand point in the rear?
