Strange GPS behaviour

The GPS on our 07 L322 is showing some weird things currently:

    - It takes about 5-8 minutes of driving before the “GPS with red cross” sign disappears in the map. However, the car position in the map is correct at all times, both at the start of the drive (when GPS red cross is present), while driving and after the “GPS red cross” sign has disappeared.
    - Latest map installed (3-4 years ago).
    - New GPS antenna mounted 3 years ago.
    - When going into the hidden GPS menu, it shows that the GPS sensor is detecting the satellites, BUT: The GMT Date&time information is not correct - it shows 04/17/2001! AFAIK the date&time information should be correct at least when the satellites have been found and the “GPS red cross” sign is not present.

Not a big deal since the map is working regardless whether the “gps red cross” sign is there or not, but I just want to try to understand what could cause this issue.

Yes, that's the strange thing - seems to find the satellites, but there might be something wrong with the internal decoder? I've also tried to disconnect the battery (2 month old agm Battery), tried to Reset the position, calibrate position, but I haven't found any fault on the IID tool either. Strange!

Stil Ill think you’ve a problem whit the antenna.
Maybe check the connections again or try a anther
antenna. The numbers in the picture are pointing
to a bad receiving somehow.

I had this problem and on Sunday I replaced the receiver / aerial on the back of the car. Happy to say that after recalibration it now works. The issue was that the previous owner had either gone under a height restriction which was too low or something had hit the aerial as it was totally smashed (but couldn’t be seen as smashed from looking at the car from the roadside) and the GPS receiver was broken in two.... 😳

It was a bit tricky trying not to damage the headlining but I removed the two upper rearmost dog guard location points (crosshead screws) and also pulled the rear trim/speaker covers off, the tailgate seal and I clipped the headlining retaining tab (middle rearmost fixing) and used a 10mm to undo the securing nuts. There will be a backplate that comes off internally.

You’ll need to unclip the red and green connectors and there’s then two small retaining tabs on the aerial itself that need squeezing together (not by much) and the aerial will pop out and you can recover it from the roof.

Before refitting the replacement aerial I did use a small amount of sealant as I wasn’t sure of the integrity of the seal. Obviously refit the above on reverse.

Hope this helps?

Regards

John
