There's a short piece of plain rubber vacuum hose you may need to remove to get to one of the bolts securing the thermostat. You might want to get a replacement for that in advance (any motor factor), then you can just cut the old one away and replace with new rather than struggle to pull it off the pipe each end - mine didn't want to budge.

Have you considered deleting the whole EGR/EGR Cooler assembly? |

I did my EGR stat a month or so ago. Didn't need to remove the fan or shroud, just the top cover that hides the stat. Maybe I was lucky but the little rubber vacuum pipe came off no problem.
