Air Conditioning

Hi all, the FFRR is not moving at the moment due to Level 4 Lockdown in NZ, so plenty of time for me to tinker with things.

One problem however, is still escaping me. Tonight I did the fault code reading, finally, and only the air pollution sensor comes up as a tested fault. It seems unlikely that that will stop the AC from cooling.

So the issue is, the fans etc. work fine, there is just no cold air coming out of the vents, none. The AC pressure in the system is likely to be OK as there is no pressure fault code.

So what the heck could be stopping cold air coming in ????? Any thoughts????????????? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Pressure may still be ok but not enough charge (liquid) in the system, get it recharged and see how it is.

I'd tried with a recharge kit because that was my first thought and it raised the pressure to very high straight away, so not sure if that is the issue. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Have you checked that the rev`s come up when you switch on the A/C that indicates that the pump is working and go down when it`s switched off?

Mine had a faulty Air pollution sensor all the time I had it and the aircon worked fine..

I would agree with above, get the system drained, vacuumed out and then refilled, if you have no other faults that would be the place to start...

Good luck Pete

You could try running the ac on full recirculation and see if anything happens.

Do you mean no cold air coming through the vents or no air?

If the air isn't cold then it's probably the valve on the compressor. Common fault (I'm assuming its the same 'updated' compressor that the facelifted TDV8s use. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

According to the workshop manual the TDV8 and Petrol have different types of compressors.

I was hoping it was the fluid but using CRC recharge raised the pressure immediately, so that didn't work. I will give it another try before I go to a pro outfit after lockdown eases here in a few weeks. We're going to Level 3 on Tuesday and then 2 weeks later to Level 2 (if all goes well). so then I can do this sort of stuff as well. Good thing is that we're in autumn and winter will be starting soon so temperatures are dropping.

To be clear, the entire climate system seems to be working fine, it blows air, responds to the control system the air that comes through is just not cold at all. Also no water dripping from underneath to it is just not cooling. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Success!!! Today I used the Faultmate to keep an eye on the system parameters and then started filling the system with CRC AC recharge. The pressure gauge on the recharge bottle went straight into the red (about 25% of the red range) but system pressure of the AC didn't go up for a long time.

So I kept going and then finally it started working. So it has cool AC again, I'll need to run it on a warm sunny day to see how well it does though. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
