DIY wheel refurb

Well with time on my hands iv turned to refurbing my wheels there pretty bad with lots of corrosion on the inside and flakeing on the outside their the only thing letting the car down.
I would have preferd to get them all powder coated but that's not gonna happen any time soon........so iv orderd some paint as iv only the 1 can of etch primer in the garage.
I can however get a start on cleaning them up the paint wont arrive for a week Confused

This is after a couple of hours cleaning and sanding down

I'm not after perfection on the inside rim a few layers of etch primer

I will be after a decent finish on the front will all be rattle cans anorl

I don't want to hijack this thread (I am still on topic) but am I right in thinking that the bit of damage on my Diamond Cut Turbo wheels can be sanded away and then lacquered?
Has anyone done it? Geoff

Top effort Thumbs Up

It surprising what can be achieved with rattle cans. Takes a lot of patience.
I remember colour coding some wheels on an old Classic many years ago. Ardennes Green from memory, plenty of rubbing down and a nice even coat of primer was the key, followed by quite a few really thin coats of paint and the same of clear lacquer. I was genuinely surprised at how good they turned out.

Good luck and looking forward to seeing the end result.

Looking good so far.

Will they need to be rebalanced before using them again ? I can't see any existing weights ? Current: FF Westminster money pit

I hoping they wont need to be rebalanced once im done remember I'm not after perfection just a decent clean set of wheels. I do have access to a wheel balancer if needed.

I like this sort of thing Thumbs Up I did the old Boxsters wheels which were pretty cut up.

Only some dog hair on them...

You look like you’ve taken more care with yours, l neglected the insides, looking good.

Using playing cards for masking wheels is much easier than masking tape, you can pick up a couple of packs for a £1 in the right shop 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone
