Alarm went off in high winds

The alarm on my FF went off last night in the wee hours, could it be the gales we are having in Scotland? Was certainly stormy last night. Did a search, it looks like the bonnet sensor is often the culprit?

I pressed the button only once when I last locked it before leaving home 4 days ago. Is this single locked with the internal sensor not activated?

I was fine, I'm away from home but the Mrs had some choice words and was none too impressed Shocked

Cheers

Airflow into the cabin setting off the interior sensor? Happens with my L322 when the camping fridge switches on and it's fans start. Ron B. VK2OTC

Thanks, sounds like it could be, how would you stop that? Put it on cabin recirc?
Cheers

In my case, it requires an extra press of the lock button to disable the internal sensor. Ron B. VK2OTC

I thought on my 2010 L322 one press was perimiter alarm and two presses was perimiter and interior alarm? Only just got it though so not sure, can anyone confirm as I don't have access to the owners manual right now?

I left the car locked with one press only so leads me to think it's the bonnet sensor - bonnet gets lifted in high winds and alarm goes off?

Thanks Very Happy

Thanks Stan, found it.

From the handbook, below. Single locking (one press of the button) doesn't switch on the alarm inside the car

Press the lock button on the Smart Key briefly,
to single lock the vehicle and activate the
perimeter alarm. The hazard warning lamps
will flash to confirm. A second press within
three seconds will double lock the vehicle and
activate the full alarm system. The hazard
warning lamps will flash a second time to
confirm the enhanced lock/alarm state.

SINGLE LOCKING AND PERIMETER
ALARM
Single locking secures the vehicle and prevents
the doors and fuel flap from being opened from
outside. The doors may still be unlocked and
opened from inside the vehicle. In this state,
only the perimeter alarm is activated. The
perimeter alarm will sound if:
• The bonnet, tailgate or a door are opened.
• The vehicle battery is disconnected.
• An attempt is made to disconnect the alarm
siren.
Note: This setting should be used in
circumstances such as travelling on a ferry,
when pets are to be left in the vehicle, or if a
window must be left open etc.
DOUBLE LOCKING AND FULL ALARM
Never double lock the vehicle with
people, children, or pets inside. In the
event of an emergency they would be
unable to escape and the emergency
services would be unable to release
them quickly.
Double locking secures the vehicle and
prevents the doors being opened from inside
or outside of the vehicle. The doors cannot be
unlocked or opened from inside the vehicle
when double locked.
This provides additional security if the vehicle
is left unattended. The vehicle cannot be
opened by breaking a window and operating
the door locks from inside.
Additionally, double locking also activates the
full alarm system. Once activated the alarm
system will sound if:
• The bonnet, tailgate or a door are opened.
• Movement is detected within the vehicle
interior.
• A window, front or rear windscreen or
sunroof glass are broken.
• The vehicle is raised or tilted.
• The vehicle battery is disconnected.
• An attempt is made to disconnect the alarm
system.
Note: In this state, an open window or sunroof
will cause the alarm to sound due to the
movement of air currents. For this reason,
ensure all windows and the sunroof are fully
closed before double locking the vehicle.

I think the locking procedure swapped round at some point. My TD6 was opposite with the button presses.....

As already mentioned....bonnet switch could be the culprit also.....

Thanks, yeah so I think P38Rover's 2004 L322 is the opposite of late cars, my 2010 is a very late 3.6 so I'm not sure? I suppose I could get the wife to put the guinea pig inside and then experiment Very Happy

Or you could leave a window down and just stick your hand in......

Well yeah but there'd be no drama in that Laughing Mrs S is not keen to lock it again so i'll need to take a look when I'm home...

Yep, looks like the procedure has been reversed. Maybe the earlier procedure was a carry over from BMW. Ron B. VK2OTC
