Experience from RR owners who had a RRS before

Hi all,

We currently have have a RRS (well mainly the misses), and I am now also interested in one.

I like the RRS as it is, gives a snug feeling and drives ok, however I may also be interested in a RR as I certainly like the looks, but I haven't driven one yet.

So I am very curious to here what the likes/dislikes where when comming form an RRS.

I answered a very similar question recently via PM to another forum member. so below is pretty much a cut'n'paste of that PM.
hope its of use in helping you decide?

I made the switch from an RRS TDV6 to an RRS TDV8 HST to the FFRR.
I kept each car from new for 2.5 years.
I considered each one an upgrade on the previous. I originally planned to get a third RRS, the autobiography, but i didn't feel the spec was as good , and the engine/performance was a serious downgrade- and this alone ruled it out for me (despite the salesman's insistence's Very Happy ).
Despite being 42, I had always considered the FFRR appropriate for someone "Older than me" Wink
but having test driven the 4.4 tdv8, i knew this was a nonsense I had concocted in my own head to get a more "sporty" looking RR.

so to actually answer your question;

I am extremely pleased with the ride comfort, the luxurious fittings (the RRS was very "plasticky" inside, even at the HST level of finish).
The torque of the engine, and the TFT display really sold the car to me however.
The fuel economy is generally better than the RRS, but I drive it very differently, it is so much more relaxed an experience. But there is plenty there for overtaking on country roads - which was not true of the new RRS.
All I am missing from the HST RRS is the adaptive cruise control, and I do miss it . But that is all i miss from the RRS.

I had so many replacements sets of front bushings on my RRS's (which i understand is due to the self leveling suspension, and the high demand it puts on these parts) that I do not miss that feature. that being said there is no real appreciable roll on cornering. but as previously stated, the car is a much more "sedate" experience, and i don't "chuck it around" as much (technical term used by salesman Wink ).

Its not without its issues, but these have been typical Land rover issues (poor pre-delivery prep etc, but by now I know that a good 15-20 minute paint inspection is a must - i had scratches, dents and atrociously fitted mudflaps!).
And to their credit they are slowly sorting them out.
The iphone integration is also a bit flaky, in that it does not index my entire phonebook as it should, but no issue, the RRS was no where near as integrated, especially on the audio control side.
Sat nav has better functionality, I like the DAB radio a lot, digital TV is poor, so the dual view screen is little more than a gimmick that impresses the kids Smile .
Heated steering wheel is great, and the remote pre-heat is potentially good (i have only used it once, and it flashed a low battery warning- next on the "to be fixed" list.

All told I am a happy "proper" range rover owner................and that's another downside; i have found myself developing the "RRS is not a real range rover" attitude Whistle

Lucky to have both at the moment

but the new 4.4TDV8 with the 8 speed is a diff animal ( and i mean animal Smile )

2010 Sport nice interior but now the TDV8 is missing the 3.0 is poor in so many ways Sad

would i buy another sport well got to say very unlikely considering the mare i had with another 2010 car that got handed back.

Sport still feels like a Disco 4 in many ways

FFRR is just a different car in every way feels like a 80K car where the sport can be 65k and feels like a 45K car Far to many gone...

I currently have an HSE spec 2010 sport on my driveway (RR getting a little TLC at the dealers!)

And having driven the sport again this morning.................i can't wait to give it back.
Feels pretty claustrophobic inside, the wood trim looks like fake wood flooring and everything is generally less comfortable and dare i say................average! Gerry

My dealer calls them Discovery Sports, mainly 'cos that's what they are. Built on the same T5 chassis, same engines by and large, same sort of bits inside. Basically a D4 which costs more and has less seats. Bargain.

The FFRR on the other hand is a completely different experience. Even the lowly HSE spec (lead-in model) ie better equipped than a lot of Sports. More opulent, more room, more comfy and more worthy of the badge.

Oh, and the FFRR will never give the impression that you're a "Street Pharmacist" Wink

2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

I have owned 2 RRS's (2.7 Tdv6 and TDv8) and 2 FFRR's (TD6 SE and now a TDv8 Vogue)

3.6 TDv8 FFRR is def better than a TDv6 2.7 or 3.0ltr RRS, the FFRR seems better built and better quality trim BUT having owned a TD6 FFRR as well, it was a wheezey old tractor compared to the 2.7 TDv6 RRS I replaced it with. I now have a TDv8 FFRR Vogue, my previous car was a TDv8 RRS HSE and from a handling point of view I'm sorry but the 3.6TDv8 FFRR cannot hold a candle to the handling of the TDv8 RRS with the DR system that car has. Now the 4.4 TDv8 FFRR is a brilliant car, it has the latest generation of the DR system from the RRS and doesn't wallow and roll anywhere near as much as my 2010MY 3.6 TDv8. The 4.4TDDv8 FFRR also has a slightly stiffer ride than my 3.6 FFRR but it really does handle so much better when you want to press on on twisty roads. The problem with the 4.4 is the price................ it's out of my price league now 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Me too, have owned 2 RRS, a 2.7 and 3.6 and now driving a FFRR 2010. I'm so happy with it and would not go back to a RRS. Have ordered a 4.4 but decided end of January to wait until next year...
Just got back from a business trip to Milan and although I was exhausted I really enjoyed the drive back.
But to be fair, I've never had any problems with both RRS and as Tim says, handling is better in the RRS!

I had one of the very first Supercharged RRS when they came out and was a very active member on the RRS forum, do a search on my username.

The FFRR is a totally different car, the RRS being built on the Discovery 3 chassis means that it IS a Discovery, and not a Range Rover, in the same way the new Evoque is not a proper RR, just maximising on the branding.

Like others here, I drive the FFRR differently, more sedate (some of the time!) and I recently had mine remapped, so its producing 315BHP and 800Nm of torque. It's spectacularly quick.

I recently was a passenger in a 2010MY sport TDV8 in JoBurg, I have to say, I really don't miss it, too cramped inside, too jarring (in the back anyway) and just not luxurious enough. Everyone loves being a passenger in a FFRR, its just sublime.

I'm only 35, I was 31 when I first got a FFRR L322 model, its not an old mans cars, its a distinguished gentleman's car, for people with immense taste!

Thanks all for your responses, highly appreciated!

One of the reasons I would be looking for a RRS or RR is actually to help control my urge for using the power. The XKR is a very great GT, and mine has some good extra power, but it also begs for using it, and I am just to weak and give in every time Wink.

When driving the RRS TDV6 (tuned, as stock it is just too weak, and with tune it is ok for my taste), I am not getting the urge to drive hard, and can actually enjoy a sedate driving style (even more so then the misses).

So I am not expecting to drive hard (will of course keep my xkr), but some extra power for certain situations isn’t bad why I would at least want a TDV8. To be honest if I would have the funds for a petrol SC car, I would probably go for that, but it is just too expensive here especially since I drive a lot.

I have tuned a 4.2 SC RRS a while back by putting on a twin-screw supercharger and that one had at least 500 bhp and more than 700nm of torque (very broad rpm range). Driving this one was good fun, the car actually felt light Wink.

What would worry me a little bit (not the extra luxury/looks/room of course, can certainly appreciate that from the RR compared to the RRS), is the ride itself as Tim mentioned, so I have planned a test drive with a RR TDV8 next week.

The more I think about it and reading all the comments, the more I get drawn to the RR, lets see what the test drive does. RRS TDV6 08
