L405 Vogue SE has lost so much money in 12 months!!!

What the hell has happened for these FFRR's to drop so much money, at this rate I will have to keep mine for another year or two just to even things out.

1st year is always the worst. Although the way things are going year 2&3 may not be much better Sad

Assuming it’s a diesel and considering that’s what we were told to buy a few years ago, it now seems to be considered the fuel of the devil. Throw in some enthusiastic. 4x4 bashing and things do seem to be going downhill.

My last D4, which started from a much lower purchase price than a FF lost a cool £33k in four years.

From £40k, a fab deal at the time, to less than £30k in 15 months, get more selling in bits soon!!!
Yes its a very high spec, SDV8 Vogue SE, extras, rear media, wheels, soft close doors, head rests, deployables.

A tale of two Range Rovers.....

It’s not just the L405 that suffers massive depreciation, it’s all Range Rover branded vehicles.

I was running a 2017 L494 HSE which I calculated was losing close to £1200 per month in depreciation. As I was only driving around 6000 miles per year I sold the RRS and picked up a very well maintained and cared for 2005 L322 Vogue. The scary thing is that after owning the Vogue for 5 months the depreciation that I was losing off the RRS had covered what I had paid for it.

Yes I miss the rapid acceleration and the handling but not enough to throw away £1200 per month. There is just so much uncertainty regarding big Diesel engines that I fear prices will continue to slide for the foreseeable future.

The Vogue, or Sylvia as she is known, is comfortable, practical and still turns heads. I think that my days of buying new are over.

That was a £100k car for the first owner - your depreciation is pretty good to be honest - I did the sums for what it cost me for a new VSE over 4 years - and it came out at around £20k a year to run including all costs and depreciation for the first 4 years - I did write a detailed post re this - will see if can find it 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Here you go - and this is for a 322 and not a 405 which is substantially more £

FWIW Range Rover ownership has always been the same - I am on my 16th and can remember the days when a new one could be bought for around £1500 in the early 1970’s 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Thank you for link!
My last Overfinch 2005 FFRR petrol I bought for £12500, cleaned it, gave it the TLC it needed, had it for a year and sold it for £14500 making a small profit.
My worry is if I keep this RR it will lose another 10k plus over this coming year and I only do about £3k per year!!!

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

What year and mileage?

I have been looking at L405’s for the past year and despite some pretty rough and ready ones the prices for the spec, mileage and age we wanted haven’t moved as much as people seem to say they have. Went to see a few 14 plate 4.4 VSE’s with <50k on the clock for around 30-33k and every single one was a long way from good condition and all needed new disks and pads, a good service and tyres, they were basically ran down ready for sale. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
Previously George a 2007 MY07 Java Black VSE 3.6 TDV8
Previously a 04 MY04 Defender 90 Sad

End of September 2019, I paid £52k for my SDV8 AB, from a main dealer. 28 months old. 20,500 miles, standard AB spec but with the optional 24 way seats and privacy glass. Full list price would have been approx. £108k I think. Shocked

Hardly a surprise that quite expensive cars produced in fairly large numbers depreciate - for real depreciation, spare a thought for people who buy things like Bentaygas.

I took my 2017 31000m L494 SDV8 Autobiography into a dealer today with a view to trading it in for a L405 SDV8. I bought my L494 new in Oct 2017 for £86650 and today I got offered £38500 for it. So thats £48150 in 28 months or £1720 per month in depreciation

It does make you think very hard about buying another L-R product

It makes you wonder if contract hire/leasing is the way forward. Although the prices for that will start shooting up when their systems become aware of the high depreciation going on at the moment.
