The solvent that best breaks down the glue for these badges is xylene.
It also gets tar spots off a treat.

Hammerite thinners is mostly xylene - so you can use that if you can't get a tin of the pure solvent.
Highly flammable so no smoking or sparks nearby.
Will strip polish off a vehicle, so be careful.
Won't damage paint though.

I got a 5 litre tin free from an industrial paint supplier at the same time I bought a 510 litre drum of red oxide.. I must have had it 6 years and still plenty left!  Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 - L405 (now sadly sold)

the best stuff to use by far is "Autoglym instant tar remover" and its safe on paint too, will remover anything stuck to your paint.

its really easy, i used a hairdryer to warm the glue/plastic up then used a very thin plastic scraper to carefully slide under the letters then used the removal wheel to get rid of the glue (works brilliantly!!! cant recommend it enough!) then a bit of polish to clean the paint work, not one scratch in doing this!
