Had a couple of times where my car wouldn't start/ wouldn't even turn over. I'm going to Devon on holiday in it on Monday so need to sort it sharpish.

Here's what it does. Turn the key to start the car you just get a faint kind of clicking/ whirring noise coming from under the gear knob.

I tried for 10 minutes to start it earlier and ended up pulling the plastics off and tapping around where I thought the noise was coming from, then it started.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a small widget that has to engage ( to tell the car it's in park for example) before it will start? The battery and alti are fine, I'm confident (ish) it's not s starter motor issue.

Have you tried Jump leads / Booster pack when it happens?

My TD6 kept doing that until I put a new battery on

Did you get the clicking under the gear lever?

I didn't try jump leads but then when it does start it starts with gusto. Plus the batt was tested about 2 weeks ago. My Previous RR's!

Just been and had it apart again. I thought it might have been the brass looking motor type thingy, but I think that's the locking mechanism that keeps it in park till you press the brake. I couldn't get it to replicate the fault (typical) so will have to wait till it goes again before I can look closer.

The other post you put up said it all needed lubricating, that may be the case here  My Previous RR's!
