hey peeps ive found where my smoke and diesel smell is coming from.. thing is i dont know what it is??

Its at the very rear of the engine underneath the pollen filter and you can see the silver insulation is covered in black..

Often I can get a smell of unbutnt fumes through the vent , and if that mess is near the pollen filter then its something to do with the fuel burning heater if you have one.

Boost hoses?

Found out its a egr tube, land rover crushed the flange and under hard throttle its was leaking to the point exhaust fumes were being sucked in via the HVAC and the heat from the engine was causing smoke .. lots of smoke Regards

Land Rover agreed there technician crushed the flange of the pipe. So new one arrived today f.o.c and I fitted it myself. Pig to do becuase there is what looks like a high pressure rail or similar right about it and the heat proofing around the tube made it really hard to locate properly.

But she’s in now and my mpg has shot it bu around 10mpg and something I didn’t realise was that the leaking tube was making the engine noise much much louder. Very quiet and civilised now. Regards

Just going to check out that area / union - a bit of a diesel waft under the bonnet, not sure if normal.
