I'm new so thought I'd post to try and gather as much advice as I can on a potential new purchase.

I'm after an L322 5.0 - I did consider the 4.4 TDV8 but with the move towards ULEZ charging, plus the fact I want something for 5 years or so, I've decided the 5.0 is the way forward.

From reading here, it seems the big thing to watch for is whether the timing chain and guides have been done. Would you say this is essential? Has anyone here had it done? What's the cost roughly st a specialist - presumably north of £2k?

My other car is a 911 and I've had a P38 4.6 in the past so not afraid of running costs, just keen to avoid the obvious bear traps!

I'm with you on preferring to buy privately.

Having said that I don't see £22k as particularly steep for one of these with under 60k on it. If selling I'd be surprised to have to let it go for less than £20k even privately. Mine is in a different part of the market - just passing through 100k and will be with me for another couple of years - but I would be asking about £18 if selling on here now. If the car checks out, the dealer seems OK to deal with and the colour and spec suits you then I'm not sure that you'll find much better. But of course they do come along all the time so its not a once in a lifetime chance! Mike - MPx

True, it's probably not too far off the mark, if it had been Grey I'd have probably bought it already.

I've fancied one for years. The P38 is the only car I've ever had that I've really regretted selling so looking forward to it.

Still not sure if I should consider the TDV8 as they're a fair chunk cheaper too
