Brake Bleeding 4.4TDV8 - engine running?

Hello All,

Tomorrow I'm changing pads and I'm reading the workshop manual (again Wink )
And all of a sudden I see one must run the engine to bleed the brakes?

I've changed rotors and pads on other cars and never had the engine running.
It always worked fine.

Is the RR different in that the engine NEEDS to be running?

Just making sure.

Thanks in advance Smile

To change old/thin pads to new/thick pads I need to open the bleeder to not push the old fluid up and back into the reservoir.
I'm opening the bleeder: Twisted Evil I'm bleeding Very Happy

The wiki from northernmonkeyjones is perfect!

Just asking for opinions / experiences about running the engine (or not) while bleeding as described in the workshop manual.

On other cars I've always gravity bled brakes as I usually work alone on my car.
It's a little slow but it works.

Smile

If you wedge a block of wood on the brake pedal BEFORE you disconnect the caliper you won’t lose anything (if that’s what you are doing?) Current stable:
