Track rod end rubber knackered

Changing my lower arms today and I managed to knacker the rubber balljoint cover on the front outer track rod end. And I mean really knacker it. Embarassed

Any suggestions how I might temporarily protect it until I can fit a new one? 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Just replace the rubber boot itself. Can be bought on their own from most decent motor factors and in the mean time, a good glob of grease around it to keep the grit out of it should suffice. 2006 4.2 SC

Thanks. I'd no idea you could get them separately! 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

They've been available for quite sometime but not many people realize. Also garages wont tell you because they'd rather just sell you a replacement part to earn more money from.
Various sizes available too. Just make sure you get the right size and don't pierce the replacement gaiter when you're refitting the fiddly little retaining ring. 2006 4.2 SC

I've ordered a large one (40mm diameter) in the hope it'll fit. No way I was getting it up in the air / wheels off again to try and do an accurate measurement. I am knackered after me efforts earlier today! 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate
