Nope - for the reasons you found above. Frequent normal oil changes should be done. .

For sludge and carbon deposits to get stuck in an oilway means they have to pass through the oil pump first, the oilpump picks up oil direct from the filter so there is no way that any deposits can get to a narrow oilway... I have used flushing additives for years in really old abused engines and only seen improvements...

Interesting, as when my fatty went for her first service under my ownership, the much respected Indy put an engine flush through as part'n'parcel of the service. There was no question of 'would you prefer not to sir?' So they're either making a packet out of the treatment or they firmly believe that a flush is beneficial. I'm assuming they know better than me......or I'm gullible.......you choose 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

It forms in corners of the block where oil usually runs down after being pumped to the top of the engine, the flush thins the oil and washes some of it away, it falls to the bottom of the engine and lands in the sump... the oil pick up for the filter and pump are again, like the petrol tank, above the bottom of the sump so only cleanish oil is picked up, the sludge settles on the sump pan and comes out as you drain it... The small oil ways and galleys that provide oil at pressure to lubricate the crank, cam and other areas only have clean filtered oil delivered to them... I always use a pint of diesel in the oil a few days before an oil change. Never had an issue an the new oil stays cleaner for longer. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal |
