Rear parking sensors - how to troubleshoot?

My parking sensors intermittently give the long beep. Actually more often than not.

I can't find in the diagnostics where this error might be - anyone know?

And any ideas how to troubleshoot and cure this?

thanks

A

A gap iid tool would tell you which sensor is faulty

How do you know its the rear playing up sir? The front & rear work in sync with each other! If you have a towbar? plug in the electrics and see if the front works correctly?, that's the only way without diagnostics kit Thumbs Up

As a basic check you can put your finger on them and you'll feel a faint pulsing. Might tell you if one or more are not working. 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Have a good look at each sensor. A common issue is where the paint starts to blister and close the gap around the sensor. This causes the long beeeeeeep as if your right up against something.

No remedy to this yet, the dealer says the only error code refers to the LED. (Which is what my basic fault coder reader says too).

But the LED on the dash works.

And the sensors NEVER work now, long beep every time.

Any other ideas please?

Had this on a Jag I had a few years ago, I was under the impression that a 'long beep' meant one or more sensors were inactive & not the whole system?
To test them, ignition on, select reverse to activate the sensors. Then get a thin screwdriver & do a 'stethoscope' operation on all the sensors, you should either feel a buzz or hear a buzz.
That's how I found a faulty one, hope this helps. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

IID says all sensors are OK, the error is something like LED short to battery - whatever that means! The LED in the button is working.
Maybe spurious error, maybe I should check connections at the parking sensor ECU - where is that?

Oh, and I think it'd be very difficult to hear the ticking with the engine running. And since my gear change is a knob, I don't think there's any way of selecting reverse with only the ignition on.
