It's typical to find an air bag leak after it's been raised beyond it's normal height when jacking or if put in off road height when hardly ever used at that height. Basically the folds in the air bag become uncovered when lifted and the leak becomes apparent as it's the folds that often crack (where they flex the most).

I can feel and hear air escaping at the rear of the bag at12o clock position from my 6o clock position as it were if that makes sense? I can actually temp block off the leak with my finger tip, just wonder despite the pressure which I assume is similar to tyre pressure, could tyre weld be squirted into the bag as a temp measure or any other temp measures?? Be very careful if you try this, I tried it with alarming results. I tried various ways all without success so then I thought a hypodermic syringe. I should have thought it through further but no, I had to have the suspension high to see the area so syringe loaded, suspension high and Dr Kildare at the ready. I inserted the need and syringe plunger nearly broke my thumb as it launched itself with incredible force like a bullet from a gun. Jeez it was powerful, it just missed me and hit the wall about 2 metres away, the plastic plunger actually chipping a brick in the wall. Get a new airbag and fitting is easy. I'm so tempted to have a go myself, worried about undoing those two big nuts on the leg as its almost 12yr old, will I need a 6ft breaker bar? Also is swapping the airline onto the new strut straightforward, with no difference on the new strut compared to old? I just used a impact gun on ours, they didn’t put up a fight. Air lines swop straight over, new ones come with new fittings but I always felt it was risky to fit them so reused the old ones. You’ll need a decent size torque wrench to bolt them back up and I used new bolts as they are often damaged when removed.

Thanks for your replies, dya know I think I'll brave it and have a go myself, garage's here want £150-200 labour to fit one. Basically it's undo the drop link, 2 leg strut bolts and 3 top inner wing bolts, then the air connection.. Its that I'm concerned about, why swop it over, wouldn't the new one on the new strut be preferable? 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

The air fitting is just a olive type setup, I can’t remember the torque setting but it’s not allot (screws into plastic) and as such in my case the olive was hardly touched.. however it was a rather snug fit on the pipe and I just didn’t fancy trying to pull it off the pipe to fit the new one.. I was probably over worried, I have the new ones should they ever be used.

Yep it is! I know they are supposed to be done both sides but I'll take a punt, if that one goes it goes, IF I do the offside one at least I'll know the drill! I'm assuming fitting a new control arm on that side a few days ago and jacking up the car has "disturbed" the bag, the fold on it looks crusty but I think it's the original, so 135000its done OK I guess.. 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

After fitting you just start the car and let the compressor fill the bag for its first time I assume? 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

With the bag already being deflated due to its leak is that good enough or do I need to empty ALL air from the entire system? If the latter how/where is it released? Thanks. 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.
