Ripped off already!

So, I picked up my nice new (to me) s/c on Saturday and my good lady wife, who came along for the free hotel weekend (whcih I paid for!) asks me if this car locks the doors after pulling away just like my BMW. Imagine my shock when I discovered it's a dealer programmed option, along with a lot of other convenient features!

Dropped by my local stealer to be quoted nearly £86 for the privilege!

Having come from a MOST based BMW, I know a few places in and around Glasgow that can do this type of thing, but my knowledge of RR independents is sketchy, so I'm looking for some pointers.

Whilst I'm on a roll, here are a few other "disappointments" :-

1. Neither my very old Nokia. or i-Phone 4 download there contacts list to the car. so everything has to be done manually. I believe there's a s/w update for this, but again I want to avoid having to buy another tube of KY after having my locks programmed! Whistle

2. TMC doesn't seem to work. I do a search for any TMC station (Classis FM being a favourite), but none are found. The disk in the nav unit is the original 2005 vintage, so I'm wondering if an updated version might cure this issue?

All the above being said, it's a fabulous piece of kit!!!

Thumbs Up

The locks are a "personalisation" option, so unless the previous owner specced it then you will have to pay to change the setting. At the end of the day they aren't going to do it for free - if you bought it from a dealer, you could have asked them to set it up the way you wanted it before taking delivery of it?

I would also have asked them to sling in a new disk, but these days you're lucky if you get 1/4 tank of petrol.

It's more annoying because BMW allow such "personalisation" from the i-Drive menu. I can't help but think this is merely a money making scam!

1/4 of a tank was all I got! Crying or Very sad

in answer to you tmc problem , if the range cant pick up the tmc signal then it wont display, regardless of whether you can pick up classic or not...and the tmc is broadcast on other stations as well depending where you are, its also possible that no incidents have been noted ,so you will get no tmc broadcast.. ... - .- -.

AlanM, if you are on the east/ north side of Glasgow then there is an independent at Larbert - GEMM 4x4, they have a website. They work on any Landie but specialise in P38's and last week had 4 L322's in the yard for repairs or servicing............. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

i know its a FFRR forum but things like auto door locking and being charged to enable is a joke/rip off

on my GC which is 2001 options such as this are brought up on the onboard computer for the driver to select - also things like timed light delay after lights switched off to allow you illumination to your 'door'

RR do take the Censored at times Sad

They told me there's a list and as a token of good will, they would do them all for me at that price! Laughing

I guess ticking a few extra boxes would be taking things too far even for RR!
As I understand it, there are things like home light settings, ie the headlights stay on for a period of time when you turn the ingition off, but even then, I would prefer to choose when I used that function rather than an all or nothing if it gets programmed to do it............

totally agree - hence my reference to these options being user selectable on the GC Smile

I think I'll look into NavCoder or some such thing. I know it would cost more, but on a point of principal I object to the feeling of being royally ripped off!!

Reminds me of my days when I had a Porsche under warranty, and that's not a good memory! Whistle

afaik navcoder only works for the ibus pre 2006 ranges, for the facelift ranges you need something like faultmate... ... - .- -.
