Gents,

Our 4.4 TDV8 developed a chirp from the auxiliary belt when it was cold at around 16k miles. 18 months ago the tensioner was replaced and the chirping stopped for a few weeks and returned. It's now covered 19k miles and we've been told to replace the 3 idlers and both belts by the local independent. They've quoted 5hrs labour to replace the 3 idlers and 2 belts.

Does anyone have a guide on how to get to the components? I've had a look and it looks to be quite a strip down to get to it but I'd be interested in seeing what the manual says as I'm half tempted to do it myself.

my tdv8 chirped for the 3 winters i had it ...the noise didnt last long and i just ignored it.... ... - .- -.

This one does it every time it's cold and it lasts for 5 minutes or so until it's warmed up. It's not bad, it's just irritating when you get out of it whilst it's still cold and running.  2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

5 hours labour sounds a reasonable quote to me, plus they will have the special tools required.

It isn't a bad quote at all. Some jobs I quite enjoy doing myself and I'm just wondering if this is one of them

Or a can of Carplan Beltup which is what i use on the L200 which always has a chirpy belt. Have to reapply it every now and again. It lubricates the belt as they can dry out a bit. Current Fleet:-

Just had mine done by an Indy in Littlehampton, it was noisy for about 2-3 min. Apparently there is a modified alternator bracket which resolves the core issue think he said there is tsb referencing it. Cost roughly £875 to rep idlers, bracket tensioner & belts - gen parts
