Fans don't switch off.

The out of the blue the Fan does not switch off.. Could it be a relay? if so where is it and what colour?

The above link gives you all the fuse and relay locations for the vehicle.

I am assuming you mean the fan for the heating / air con ?
If so, the control unit has an electrical feed and a fuse to supply the unit as a whole, all functions of that unit are controlled by a built in PCB, so there is not a separate relay for the fan. Either the switch on the unit is faulty or there is a fault in the PCB.

It is relatively easy to remove the unit and you could try cleaning with compressed air and contact cleaner spray, or get a complete used unit, lots around, not too expensive on the net.

Below are two links for removal and / or fix-repair of this unit.

If the fan would not run it could also be a faulty final stage resistor ( Hedgehog ), so this must be ok.
Hope this helps Thumbs Up

Hi Colin

Unit has several names, HVAC control unit, climate control unit, heater control unit, etc, etc
As for the unit, if the PCB is faulty, from what I have seen just change the whole unit in one go. If it is not a simple fix, repairing the PCB would probably cost more than changing the whole unit, as said try cleaning or tips in the videos first.

By the way, my name is Rob, don't know where the name Martin came from, mind you, I regularly get called a lot worse from some other people Rolling with laughter

Good luck with the faults
Rob

Was FSR that failed on mine that left fans running all the time even with ignition off and vehicle locked...only a flat battery stopped it! Had to use a key as central locking wouldn’t work. Now have a charger for 13 pin electrical socket. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Merchy and Haylands,

Thanks for your suggestions. I took out the Unit and cleaned it all up. But it has made no diference. So have ordered another FSR. Should that not work I will get a replacement unit. As of now the Fuse pull solution is working.
The PCB. looked OK with no signs of any discolouration or any previous repairs so that's why I opted fot the FSR. option first.

I think the FSR is more common, get a genuine one, the cheap ones don't last many months and are false economy if your fatty is a keeper.... Thumbs Up Pete
