Bm54 amp outputs / amp inputs

Hi all - quick question I have the non dsp amp (the small square black job in the boot still) anyway with the stock setup the system sounded half decent and went pretty loud. I’ve now gutted the setup and put an android headunit in. Correctly or incorrectly I assumed the outputs from the bm54 unit would have been line level so I have wired the line level outputs to the amp inputs problem is it’s pretty quiet at full volume and very distorted then too - so the question is does the bm54 output line level but maybe at a higher volume or have I been a moron and should I have used the speaker level outputs to the amp (semi quick rewrite) any advice will be greatly received.

The DSP isn’t an amp, it’s only a sound processor with crossovers inside etc to feed the speakers directly. I do seem to remember that the BM54 amp can do various functions but I’m no expert.

The biggest issue you will have is to get the BM54 amp to actually power on, because it uses a pulse on the ibus that comes from the head unit, that you have removed.

Technically, if you remove the DSP and amp, you won’t have any crossovers left in the system to split the correct frequencies to each speaker.

Though, I’m not sure if the BM54 switches to a different mode if it doesn’t see the DSP identify itself on the ibus.

I thought the DSP was standard on the Vogue?

Cheers for the quick response - it’s the non dsp amp I have so it’s not ibus dependant so that’s not an issue. Do you think that this would be the same as the dsp though just an active crossover as opposed to an amplifier? Cheers Current stable:

I recon you will still need an ibus signal to get it to power on. I might be wrong, but I don’t think I am.....if you get me....

Might be easier to run speaker wires from your head unit into the boot, and pick the car speaker wires up from there? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I know you don’t need ibus as that’s what I am have been running for a while with a different setup and it’s working ok now just quiet so think a repin to high level outputs to inputs is my next plan! Current stable:

You prob know more about that bit than me then. I’m sure I read it can switch between modes depending if DSP is there, but can’t remember.

Sounds like a plan.

Baris on here should be able to advise as he repairs and upgrades them.
