As I have so many added bits I fitted a 20a self-resetting fuse close to the positive post after which is an Aux fusebox. All my accessories are wired from the Aux fusebox via relays. My trail lights and front light bars are wired onto remote control relays so I can turn them on or off when in or out of the car.

No reason why you can't connect direct to the battery +ve terminal, I have an auxiliary fuse board connected to it for convenience but same difference.
