Not exactly true!

But...

Hi guys. I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.
2004 TD6. Had various problems with screen going on and off and volume cutting in and out, but at present I have:-

Screen lights up. Switches between Radio, Tape and CD. DSP is available and on and so is the orange power light.
Sound will play for a random length of time then go silent. No matter what input you use. If you turn the volume switch up full you can hear (very quiet) the sound/channel/track playing.
Volume switch on steering wheel does the same.

Checked boot for water and is all dry.
Unplugged leads on Tuner, Amp, Nav and (the other box with micro fuse), cleaned and replaced. There was no corrosion.

All I have noticed is the power light is not on the Nav unit in the boot. The Orange light on it is flashing randomly. There is no disc in it (I think) and there are no Nav options displayed on the head unit/screen.

I’ve tried unplugging Nav, but still get no sound (or very very quiet when turned up full)

Anyone any ideas?

You may need to have a look INSIDE the various boxes at the back, BM54 (Radio), SatNav, TV module, DSP/Amp.

Look for signs of corrosion (green or white stuff) on the circuit boards, and check all the pins/connectors.

A clean with electrical contact cleaner (not WD40) and a toothbrush might restore things .

Disconnect connectors and all the plugs and pins look good. Will have a go taking each unit apart and give a clean next light day I get.
Any one particular to start on?

Don’t think the no power light on the Sat Nav could be anything to do with it? As I say there’s no power light but there is a pulsing orange light flashing on it next to where the disc goes. I don’t think there’s a disc in there (well nothing ejects) and there’s no Navigation options on the head unit/screen anymore. Maybe that’s because there’s no disc in it tho? Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

Sound should work with the Satnav disconnected, so mostly likely the DSP/Amp or the BM54 .

Sorry to resurrect this thread.

So today’s the first day I’ve had to play. I have 4 units in the boot.
Sat Nav
A Black Amp KQK000030
A Silver box (seams to power the headunit screen) YIL 000023
A Silver Box XQC500010

Have taken them all out and striped them down. No water ingress at all. All clean connectors and all pins plugs fit tight.
Head Unit screen lights up. Orange light is on and DSP is showing on screen. Unit let’s me swap between Nav,Radio,CD no probs.

No sound, but when you turn volume up full you can just hear the music murmer very quiet. On a 60 mile journey this week end the radio suddenly slowly faded up to a faint but bearable le level. Only Left side front and back though. Right side is dead. . 20 mins later it went quiet again.
As say if you turn volume up full, you can “just” hear the sound through Left front and rear speakers.

Anything else I can try before (not sure where to go) but start replacing bits at £150 a go second hand?

have a full set up thats taking up room if you want for £160 and a bit of postage

At a guess, it is the black amp that has gone South

Yeah I stripped all 3 boxes down. All dry. Good connections. No water marks at all.

I’m not sure what units gone down. Could it be the head unit as well?

What part numbers have you got Mad? Maybe easier to go with yours as may plug and play. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

have a look, listed on ebay and just about anywhere else I can list to get sold, although will let it go for £160 on here + delivery.

You could try wiggling the speaker cables on the top of the dsp unit, the cables connected to the two front plugs, and see if anything happens.

Think its time to put my "brave pants" on and buy and attempt to fit an Android Unit. Im guessing the BM7802B is still about the best from Audio Tech Direct? @ £249.99 ?

If i cant id which unit is breaking down, im tempted to go aftermarket.

Ive spoken to a really helpful guy at ATD and the package he can put me together is
Bypass cable, BM7839B and Aerial extension. This all comes in around £400 though

Have you fitted the Xtrons Ts119L ? Does it sound ok going straight to the speakers as apposed to going through an amp?

Im not looking for anything special, just a bit of noise to be honest. Not worried about cameras and wifi etc etc. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

sounds no different tbh. internal amp on the unit pushes 45w per channel and no need for additional cables that you'd need if you went down the dsp bypass route that everyone thinks you have to go. rewiring the speakers is easier than re-routing a 6m cable from the back to front and then extra expense to bypass the dsp
