After 3 years insurance now insisting on tracker

My 2011 4.4 TDV8 has comprehensive insurance and only has the standard factory immobiliser fitted. Today I received an email from my insurer saying they are unable to offer cover next year. I've never had a claim for over 9 years.

Quote:
Sorry, we can't renew your policy
We've searched our panel of insurers to find you a renewal price for your car policy, but none of them have been able to offer one This means your policy will end on 23rd May 2019.

Looking around for an alternative they all seem to want proof of a tracker installation with a maintenance contract.

The car is nearly 8 years old and has not been stolen yet so what has changed?

Does every one on this forum have a tracker fitted? Anyone else had this problem? 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Do you live in an area with a high rate of car crime?

Maybe a long shot but try the NFU, we do live in a low crime area but have had some expensive vehicles and never been asked for a tracker. Worth a look Thumbs Up

I’ve got the same car as you insured with Aviva for a sensible price and no mention of a tracker.
Slightly off topic but I’ve just discovered this year that I’ve got big savings on all of our cars by adding my wife as a named driver for no obvious reason

The obvious reason is your wife is less likely (statistics) to have an accident than you and she will be driving it a proportion of the time. Painful but true.

OP...who is the insurer? David

Please let me know if my comments upset you, I may wish to upset you again.

I would have agreed but adding me to her policy also knocked 11% off - in total we've saved over £300 across 4 cars just by adding an extra driver?

+ 1 Aviva; I'm in the crime capital London and they've no requirement for a tracker. Good price too.
. Cheers, Greg

Most likely they know there is no chance she’ll let you drive her vehicle Rolling with laughter David
