Of course, you can always put it to the test if you like at 73+

Some Counties seem very strict.
Maybe more tolerance on others.

check out "24hr speed cameras - smart motorways" coming to a motorway near you lol. anything over 70 and it's a ticket. if the speed has been reduced on the motorway, anything over that will also incur a ticket

If you are looking out for 'other vehicles, pedestrians, animals and generally watching the road' you will see speed restriction signs as part of your observation of hazards.

Any good driver would be looking far enough ahead that they would be aware of hazards around them and ahead of them so would have an opportunity to glance at their dashboard to check speed and and confirm no warning light are on.

If you are keeping you speed within the restriction for the road then you will have more time to react if a new hazard appears than if you are speeding 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

My comment related to experience on the M25 within the last week ( I can't comment on the M1). What I saw was that I was frequently overtaken by cars that, based on my speedometer, were doing nearer 80 than 70 and yet the cameras were not flashing them.
I don't know what your source was but it is not confirmed by my experience.

i'm pretty sure that the new digital speed cameras dont flash..

the smart cameras do not flash apparently, you just get a ticket. (on authority from a buddy who has been installing the damn things) No different to the poxy vans that sit on the side of the road waiting for you to come around the bend lol

I'm sorry mate, but this is what driving is about, we should be taking all that lot in and processing it. For many, speed camera detectors are simply there so that they can ignore the speed limit with impunity. I'm no angel and I've had my fair share of points, but it's always been a fair cop and generaly because I wasn't paying enough attention to everything around me, including the posted speed limit. That said, if you're genuinely trying to take note of everything, then a reminder is never a bad thing. Drives:

I don’t believe the 72mph story

But believe the welsh are running their own show and doing what they want including nicking unfor a 1mph excess, as they have done what they like since the days of CC Brunstrom Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Some counties do run zero tolerance. I think lincolnshire is one of them.
However i can unequivocally say that the m1 smart motorway....1: does flash at night when capturing a speeder and 2: complies with the ACPO guidlines of 10% +2.
The m25 i couldn't say. Buy most likely ACPO guidlines also.

As said previously waze is your best bet as its updated by toad users.

Road angels wont detect laser devices. To be fair all devices will only tell you onces youve been caught except for jammers which will get you a lovely court appearance for perverting the course of justice. Normally accompanied eith a custodial sentence.

Just keep an eye on your speed. I dont buy the rubbisg about spending too much time checking your speed and not being anle to pay attention to the road. If that is the case...you probably shouldnt be driving

Lincolnshire does have a zero tolerance policy and do not adopt the ACPO guidlines, my Mrs had the pleasure of a speed awareness course for 1 mph! over the limit.

As for watching the speedometer, the speed limit is just that a limit NOT a target, drive 5 mph under the limit and you wont need to keep such a close eye on the needle. BMW i3 Electric Car
