No, I don't get any sounds like that. That does not sound a very happy transfer box.

Best way to describe mine is a bit more like axle tramp. Mine had been tentatively diagnosed as my active anti-roll bar in fact, pending diff and transfer box services (when I checked the history, they were last done at 60,000 and are due). 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Did two transfer case oil changes, shudder lessened each time, will do a third change next week. Also did ZF filter and oil, front diff and electronic rear diff, hydraulic/power steering flush. Just purchased with 82k SDV8 the oil changes and adaption resets for each make a massive difference.

Has anyone managed to fix this long-term yet?

2019 5.0SC with circa 42k miles...

Asked the specialist to do the double flush and update in the hope it would solve the slight judder I felt from the rear when pulling away and turning slightly left. They did, and it didn't. (£300)

They then said there's 'play' in my prop shaft and changed that. That didn't make any difference. (£1500)

Then they said it needs a new transfer case, which it's now had. (£6500)

The issue remains and I've no idea where to go from here. I've lost faith in the specialist I'd been using for years as they just seem to guess and throw parts at it. Luckily most have been covered by my warranty, but I've still had to part with around £3k to be no further forward! They're also so busy that they don't really seem that interested in trying to solve it anymore and there's a wait of several months to book it back in anyway.

I'm even considering the main dealer now, but is there something that could have been missed here or another part I should be looking at? I was hoping a spanking new TC would've fixed it, but it only improved it slightly...

If a new transfer case hasn't solved it and the TCCM has definitely been updated, it is a possibility that you have a different problem to that of the transfer case judder in this thread. The transfer case judder I was experiencing was quite violent, not slight.

Have your diffs been ruled out? Kev

I did a lot of reading about it beforehand and the LR Bulletin was exactly what I was experiencing (and still am), so I was convinced the double flush would work.

"A customer may express a concern that a judder is felt from underneath the vehicle when using steering input at low speeds, for example turning left or right at a junction" - exactly my issue.

I did ask them "could it be the diff?" several times and they always said no. Would that make the same kind of judder? I'd read that failing diffs whine is all.

The only other thing I can think of is that they maybe haven't updated the TCCM / software correctly, or at all. They said they have, but I've lost all faith having been told by the advisor that they'd done things when they hadn't before.

knwatkins - Where did the judder / noise feel like it was coming from for you? It feels like it's coming from the rear left on mine.

Same problem here, after two years of complaining about the clonk, they replaced the rear diff under warranty.

Which did not fix the problem.

Someone thought to look at the bulletin from JLR.

They did the double flush on the transfer case, which solved the problem.

However, I tried to claim this from the warranty but was told it had not been done when I had an Indie do the service Censored so as I did not pay then, I would have to pay now.

This work should be done at 5 years or 80000 miles, my car has only covered 25000 miles in 7 years

The cost for the flush is £255 44 2017 SDV8 4.4 silicon silver AB

Did this and more

Did the flush, software update, didn’t work. Changed the transfer case and control module. Judder remained.

Got a temp lockup whilst driving, turned out to be abs sensor fault. Replaced sensor. Suspected abs grabbing.
Judder remained, changed motor on rear ediff, flushed oil twice, (clean oil) software update, judder remains.

Down the rabbit hole.

Next move is refurbish rear diff friction plates.
Having spoken to a few L405 owners with ediff It’s a common problem which most ignore. Aka get a better stereo. Very Happy

Did the ediff s/w update include recalibrating the ediff?

Software update to control module, calibration through Gap tool self test. Changed the oil again yesterday, if anything it’s worse now, thinking of trying Dr Tranny

As for accuracy disconnect the wiring to the ediff motor, test drive, no judder. As mentioned new motor fitted.

I was surprised to learn that a relatively local to me LR specialist workshop rebuilds ediffs.
