I have to say if someone offered me a new D4 or an 08 FFRR, I'd go for the D4. I test drove one a while back and all I could say was wow. What an improvement to the D3 and it really does compare to the FFRR. I wouldn't base your opinion on second hand knowledge or just a misconception, all Land Rovers have come a long way, even the Freelander is a great little car. For the money I think you're getting more buck for your bang with the Disco and they both look the part. That's just my opinion Thumbs Up

Basing my opinion on driving a D4 for a week. Certainly a great car and definitely (excluding the 5.0sc) renders the sport redundant. (apart from scrap metal dealers, wags, and 'pharmaceutical reps')

Good leaps each generation from 300tdi to d5 disco 2(though still a bit agricultural) and d3 was light years ahead.

You'll probably get a fairly one sided answer on here to be fair. The TDV8 IS an awesome car though and in three years time the 5 year old FFRR will still be worth more than the Disco! My Previous RR's!

Thumbs Up Wasn't just solely directing at you so hope I didn't offend. I was just really summing it up in general, kind of just scrolled down and didn't have a proper look at what people had wrote. But you're right in what you said and if I had the choice of the same age FFRR and D4 it would be the Range Rover every time.

@Royle; no offense taken Thumbs Up - in most of these matters it's all a mix of opinions that's the point of forums I guess. (for future ref: I'm not a whinger who will be sitting here with his lip out because someone disagrees/says something 'mean'. We're all equally entitled to express ourselves!)

As Hoppy_70 says it's bound to err on the side of the FFRR here!

I've only got a 55 plate and I still smile when I walk out to it! (though I DO have the LRAssistance card handy!)
Thumbs Up Cool

So if I take the FFRR route, do you think the new FFRR out in 2013 ish will devastate used RR values, whereas the Disco 4 is out and has a full model life ahead of it?

I know this is fullfatrr.com so I should say the RR, however the D4 is much newer technology than the L322.

Obviously the D4 is a D3 facelift, so this only dates the platform back to 2004. The L322 was originally launched in 2002, but the systems were based on the E39 5 Series, which goes back to 1995 Shocked

There are still a lot of BMW components on even a 2011 FFRR! It really is a mash of BMW, PAG, and now JLR engineering, whereas the D4 is PAG/JLR.

The FFRR is a more prestigious place to be sat, and has a more upmarket image than the D4, but I believe that a D4 drives like a significantly more modern vehicle than the FFRR. There are also a few specific components which I feel "date" the L322 now, like the older BMW style lower window trims, and as late as the 09 model the dash message display just looks like the BMW carry over it is and not as good as that on even the D3.

Sorry chaps Embarassed Wink

Martin,

Off you go now back to Disco3.co.uk there a good chap Smile

As Martin pointed out the D4 is a face-lifted D3 with some new technology and not a new model in itself so it also has limited shelf life.

Anyway the test is go sit in a 2008 Vogue TDV8 and take it for a 5 mile drive then come back and sit in a similar price D4 a drive the same route.

I think you will buy the one that makes you smile as you feel "King of the Road" and there is only one 4x4 that does that Wink
