2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Both are excellent cars as all the motoring press has to say - D4 is year after year What Car's Offroader of the year and very highly rated as an executive car and family car, FFRR is universally rated as being up there with the very best limos and better than many because of it's offroad ability and comfort. It's a hard choice as both vehicles are superb at what they do. I think you may find in these days of ever increasing fuel costs that the lighter, bigger engined FFRR may be cheaper to fuel and on a cruise the engine is beautifully subdued and relaxed and there is much less wind noise in the FFRR than the D4. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Begs the question "Why does the D4 Always win the awards more than the FFRR" Whistle

That'll be because the D4 is a better tow vehicle, has 7 seats and is significantly cheaper to buy new. The FFRR is a more plush place to be and whilst it is a good tow vehicle, the D4 is a great one. The towing pin is closer to the centre line of the axle on the D4 and it's on the T5 chassis whereas the FFRR is a monocoque on subframes.

I know this is fullfatrr.com so I should say the RR, however the D4 is much newer technology than the L322.

Obviously the D4 is a D3 facelift, so this only dates the platform back to 2004. The L322 was originally launched in 2002, but the systems were based on the E39 5 Series, which goes back to 1995 Shocked

There are still a lot of BMW components on even a 2011 FFRR! It really is a mash of BMW, PAG, and now JLR engineering, whereas the D4 is PAG/JLR.

Exactly. The D4 is ostensibly the Jag XF in a different body. New engine, new electronics which were not carried over from the S Type and at the same time it seems that JLR sorted all the niggles with the D3. More an evolution of a "great" into a "greater" than revolution. Modified suspension, the TowAssist pack and the interior is now much more soft and comfy compared to the rather more brutal D3.

Having said all that, if you don't need the 7 seats and you can live with the very slightly lesser towing niceties, well the FFRR is still the Daddy. More opulent and luxurious and of course, that wonderful TDV8 motor. If JLR had fitted that into the D4 the it would have seriously dented FFRR sales IMHO. 300BHP and enough torque to rip the Forth Road bridge off its mounts. Yeah baby !!

So, FFRR or D3? No contest. FFRR all the way.
FFRR or D4? Hmmm, depends on your own personal preferences. Close call indeed.

thats why they always have towbars for the tarmac rollers and caravans, win tow car awards and have minibus seating for 7 for the crew Wink

in all honesty though, credit where credits due it is a very good car, I just hate the square transit like appearance and the new front grill, it makes it look exactly like you would expect to see it coming swaying round a corner in india with 50 people hanging to the roof with all their luggage and bags dangling down the side Very Happy

Scotland 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Rimini Red

Having just recently gone thru this decision, the correct answer is "It depends".

We chopped in our 2010MY RRSport 3.0 TDV6 and a 2009MY Disco3 for a 4.4TDV8 FFRR but originally went in to get a Disco4.

I was expecting the D4 to drive like my RRS but was disappointed, and the interior is better than the Disco3 but I couldn't quite bring myself to get rid of the RRS and get a car that wasn't as good as the RRS. (Flak jacket on, and No, I don't work in street pharmaceuticals!!)

We did drive a 3.6 TDV8 FFRR and it was great and we had decided to try and get a 2010MY 3.6. But, local dealer couldn't get one for us and then offered a very good deal on a FFRR that they had 'in the back'. (Yes, I do have 'Mug' on my forehead).

The boot in the FFRR is still big, and takes our 3 labs easily, we never used the 7 seven seats, and the FFRR is a much better place to be.

So, maybe don't fall for the old 'Oh, we couldn't source a 3.6' like we did, but the FFRR is such a beautiful, well built car and a great place to be.

We used to have a 2004 TD6 but I had forgotten how good the FFRR is..........if you can live with the dodgy warranty repairs, shocking dealer service and occasional 'Friday afternoon' cars I would whole heartedly recommend it.

And this is the FFRR forum afterall....

Grant
