I fitted new pads and rotors a few months ago.

All has been well until recently whereby there is a groaning sorta juddering just as the Rangie comes to a stop.

Doesn’t happen under hard braking, just light braking juuuust as she comes to a standstill.

“All makes” rotors and land rover pads were fitted.

The rotors I removed were brembos and a similar juddering/groaning happened with them.

Anyone else experienced this?

Any pointers on how to rectify appreciated. 2007 3.6 TDV8

your disks may be "dirty" brake pads material deposits on the disks. accelerate to ~80 mph, apply brakes with increasing pressure, when the speed drops to ~25 mph accelerate again and repeat procedure, do this 3-4 times. do this in a safe place please.

It might be worth checking the condition of the rubber bushes in the front suspension upper arms.
If things can move around more easily, low frequency noises can be made louder. Paul,

Finally got to the bottom of this

Tried bedding in the pads and discs using various techniques - no joy

New discs and pads (Bendix HDs with titanium auto bedding) - no joy

Replaced the dampers on the top of the struts - joy!

I had a hole in one of the struts. Fitted new ones, but couldn’t remove the dampers from the old struts to transfer to the new ones.

Didn’t think they did too much, but they were referenced a few times in the workshop manual in the brakes section. Just a couple of words and nvh (noise, vibration, harshness). They are only fitted to vehicles with “high performance brakes”.

I was experiencing the groaning with the old struts (and dampers) so I was more focused on the discs and pads and drivability wasn’t compromised without the dampers (it was actually a bit better as the struts were new)

Anyhoo, Duckworths Dan sourced some new dampers and I fitted them today.

Really surprised they are more for braking purposes rather than handling/ride comfort 2007 3.6 TDV8

Attempting to answer my own question, I see in the Workshop Manual the following:

"All models feature ventilated front disc brakes. 4.4L V8 naturally aspirated vehicle use twin piston sliding calipers and brake discs. 4.2L V8 supercharged and TdV8 vehicles use 4 piston, opposed piston Brembo calipers and larger brake discs. These vehicles also have a mass damper attached to the top of each front suspension strut to improve noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) when braking. For additional information, refer to: Front Suspension (204-01 Front Suspension, Description and Operation)"

So presumably I have high performance brakes? The front caliper looks to be much larger in the pictures in the workshop manual so should be easy to confirm.

Yep, you answered your own question.

You can easily check out if you have the damper by pulling off the plastic dome shaped cover from the top of the strut, in the engine bay. 2007 3.6 TDV8

Stan hi, sorry for my ignorance but my fattie has the same problem with the groaning, I am not sure how to start a chat with duckworth dan as i think from reading this thread he supplied the part i need, i would like to ask him a couple of questions and would rather do it on the thread so other people can see it too

I’m not suggesting this will cure all braking noises for you, but it certainly cured mine.

well up until yesterday I had a similar issue , brake squeal under light braking but not heavy braking , I removed all the pads , re-copper greased them all and all is quiet again

Don't think this relates to squealing, more a judder,groaning under braking.
