My camping trip to the Continent.

We're off on Saturday for a six week tour which covers France via Eurotunnel, through Rhiems to the Jura hills and over the Alps into the Italian lakes. We then come back to Rosans and on to Carcasonne, Lourdes and down into San Sebastian in Spain. After a few days we're back up to just west of Bergerac to meet up with friends for a week or so and then home. I am bursting at the seams with anticipation.
Now watch it rain! Rolling with laughter
Thumbs Up

Our first trip out with the rig last week, I found the road lights to be permanently on, on the caravan???
I took the car to the dealerships service depot as they had agreed to take a look before I went away and told me the lights are connected via the DRL circuit, They said the kit comes as a plug so no wiring was actually done and this spec is "normal". When I turn the side or main lights on on the car they continue to stay on on the van. Hey ho!

I don’t normally tow for more than four hours on any day. It makes a comfortable stint without becoming a drudge. I may do a couple of overnighters but usually do 2 or more to allow a bit of exploring on the way. I’m doing 3 nights in the Jura, 10 in the lakes split between lake Iseo and lake Como, 7 in Hauts de Rosans, 4 in San Sebastian and 8 near Bergerac. The rest are generally 2 nighters so plenty of time to explore and relax. Having towed for 4 hours to and from Dorset last weekend, the car is just stunning. Very Happy

We spent a couple of months in Spain earlier this year going through the tunnel and driving down stopping for two nights every 200 miles or so.

The stops allowed us to fill up in the cheap fuel stations but the weather was poor so not much sight seeing.

Have booked to go again in November through to April but taking the ferry to Santander with a dog friendly cabin.

Enjoy your trip, the RR looks very smart with the VM behind it.

Ian

If you get a chance (or are interested in Motor Sport) have a trip out to the old F1 Circuit at Reims (pronounced RANZ).

Unfortunately I'm only at this site overnight on my way in search of sun for the wife. Looks a really good day out for both. Thumbs Up

Huwrhys,
Don’t miss Lake Orta, only small in comparison to some, but “the best”.
Known by Italians as the secret Lake, because they don’t want to share it with hoards of tourists. 😃😃

Hi Mike
Never heard of it!
I won’t be able to get there this year but next time/year I’ll give it a go. Is there anywhere you suggest on the lake?
It looks amazing!
Huw

Hi Huwrhys.
You could try Camping Orta, near to a small village called San Giulio. Could be rather busy this time of year though.
Plenty of facilities on the site. There are other camp sites scattered around the lake, but that is the only on we visited.
I think they have a website for viewing and it will also list a telephone number should you with to call them.
The local area is well worth a viewing.
We are off to Italy late next week with the tin tent, to Lake Garda, then to Alba in the Piedmont region.

Huw,
Sorry I don’t know about caravan sites, but their are plenty.
We rented an apartment at the southern end, but the whole area is spectacular and the drive over to Stresa on Maggiore is one you will never forget or regret taking.
