Not had a chance to dive in to the fuses yet, but thought I would put this out there.

Driving home from work with radio on, screen went funny (went to Selection Menu but with not all items showing), then blank for a while. This continued for @ 20 minutes (during which I pressed and twiddled knobs but got no response), until it just went blank, and the orange light went off. The radio continued to work.

I then noticed that the indicator lights on the binnacle (and the tick tock) weren't working. I could see the front indicators were working from reflections off the van in front.

Arrived home, engine running, checked all indicators OK on outside, just nothing inside.

Switched off engine, switched on again, screen dead, no radio this time.

Due to some significant rain showers today, checked LHR boot, everything appeared dry as a bone, BM54 warm to touch, Video unit not so. (now have hybrid digital TV unit).

So indicators related to screen/radio issue? If so what, if not what issues do I possibly have? .

weird one Tim...could it be a slipping alternator belt and low battery thus not giving all the ecu's the power they need. ... - .- -.

Sorry to say that's what happened to mine when I parked it in that river.... radio died just like yours and the indicators did the same thing... and that was definitely water somewhere....

Have a look at the BECM Tim, under the passenger seat, or the LCM, drivers footwell...

I've just had my front screen replaced as it was leaking, that makes behind the dash, very wet, maybe yours is similar....

Same happened to mine, it was water ingress in the rear

Battery at a reasonable 12.7V, engine running 14+V .

Yes Pete, given it is dry at the rear, does point to LCM/BECM. Methinks the LCM most likely culprit....

Still weird it's the radio as well....

If you find water marks inside an ECU it is the minerals in the water, drying on the circuit board that causes shorts across the board and problems, you can rinse the board in distilled water to clean the deposits off, sometimes even electrical cleaner won't remove the minerals but water will....

Blow dry with an airline and leave in the airing cupboard works well.... saved all mine bar the radio which had been wet before as it was green inside and I finished it off....

Yeah, the headlight leveling... funnily enough Craig noticed mine worked when I started fatty and recons it's only about the third one he's ever seen that still works, he says most weren't even fitted with the ECU....  Pete

I'll get into the footwell and see what is what. I have heard some "gurgling" from the A post once I get up past 60, but this could just be wind noise... .

"Pick me! Pick me!" shouted the Range Rover as I stepped out of the front door this morning. "No", I replied sternly, "You let me down yesterday and stopped working properly, I can't trust you in case you get worse. Anyway it is going to be a nice day, so I'm taking the Audi." The Range Rover frowned and shrunk back into its parking space on the drive.

As usual the Audi behaved impeccably, and it was great to have the top down to and from work, enjoying the fresh air and the sunshine.

On arriving home, the Range Rover was snoozing in the sunshine, it lifted one xenon light cap and asked drearily, "Have a good day at work?" "Yes, thanks" I replied, "I'll be out to see you in a minute." Popped inside for a cuppa and a hello with everyone, then grabbed the keys and went back out onto the drive. The Range Rover perked up and shaped up, like a cat awaiting a stroke. I unlocked the car and turned the ignition key to position II. Screen comes on! Radio comes on!. Pulled the indicator stalk down, green flashing light and the tell-tale tick tock!

Switched off and locked up. "Don't do it again" I said. "Don't do it again", said the Range Rover.

So I guess I'll have to monitor for symptoms / triggers. Will probably still have a look at the BECM/LCM and check out the radio  .

Tim, wish ours had, SWMBO was down in Kent at the weekend and the Mechatronic unit for the DSG in her TT thinks it's a Range Rover and spat it's dummy out...

Green Flag have taken 4 days to get it home (complaint in progress) and I'll be delving into it's gearbox tomorrow, apparently you can just get enough room to get the unit out the box and leave most of it in the car.... we'll see....

Glad yours has fixed itself...

I use this stuff for waterproofing the Rangie's electrics... it's not cheap but seems to work very well, have a good nose round and squirt lots of bits....

UPDATE

Well it did it again yesterday, again after a downpour. Must be water somewhere. Also noticed that the parking sensors have also stopped working when this happens, and that the IIDTool would not fire up!

Today I set about checking everything over, passenger seat out, A pillar lower trim off, both rear cubbies opened up. Battery disconnected!

BOOT

Rear cubbies and boot all dry as a bone, no sign of water or moisture. Only thing I have changed recently back here is the hybrid TV and ULF Bluetooth module, so checked all connections over there, and on the radio too.

That does seem very weird Tim, maybe just moist air getting into one of the plugs...

Glad it's all working ok now...

Did you have a look at the ABS module plug under the bonnet, can't see it would give your symptoms but you never know.... Pete
