transfer box clicking noise

Hi all
After some advice when I brake I am getting a click from underneath the left side of the my rr first I thought brakes but have found it to be on the front prop shaft at the transfer box end, I have taken the prop/tube off there is no wear on the diff coupling or tube splines the rubber doughnut seems ok and the prop tube coupling that slots into centre everything seems ok but would like to replace but cannot find one anywhere, the flange that is on the transfer box when in park will move left and right about half a centromere and this is what is clicking I think?
Has anyone had this problem before its on my l322 2003 3.0td6 auto, is this a major problem as I have only owned mt RR for about 3 months.
Hope someone can help.
Many thanks
Petebowling.

Check the drop links aswel they can be a suspect if it's happening when braking don't see how it could be transfer box

Hi riK
Have checked all nuts bolts had all brakes apart re torqued etc, why do you think it can't be transfer box as it happens when braking? I'm not sure how the transfer/ prop etc work.
Thanks
Petebowling

Still sounds like a loose bolt these bolts have to be realy tight and can be a swine to diagnose as they seem tight I had same noise with mine after fitting aftermarket arm and I thought I had tightened it pretty tight but when I had a bar on nut and spanner wedged on but lying on my back with foot on it and used a lot of grunt it shut it up .Mine sounded like someone hitting bare metal with a hammer when braking and reset itself until next time I braked .Very annoying

Sound location can be deceiving. I was convinced I had a knocking at the rear of the car.
Resolved by fitting FRONT ARB drop links Shocked Thumbs Up .

Thanks to you both I am going to take the aftermarket drop links off and change to genuine.but yes riK it's as you said bare metal with a hammer.
I'm also going to change front anti roll bar bushes whilst it's apart. Once prop tube arrives I'll fir everything and try it see what happens.
Thanks for help I'll keep you informed if it cures it.

Hmmm, I've read this post because I have a similar clunk but not quite...

I get a soft but distinct clunk sound (similar to the sound you get when you first move off after washing your car and leaving it overnight and the pads un-stick as you pull away). It consistently happens when turning the wheel to the left at slow speed, and the steering passes through halfway to full lock. Doesn't seem to happen in any other position.

Could it be a loose bolt too?

(new RR owner, had my 2008 Vogue for a couple of months now)

Def worth checking bolts .They need to be real tight .Check caliper bolts and drop links . Probably find anti roll bar bushes are ok opposing forces make rattles and bumps hard to track .as in left hand drop link worn knock on right side you can spend a lot on wrong side if you don't find it .Get a few bodies to rock her hard with someone under her and you may find prob

If you get a clunk when tapping the brakes or when braking suddenly you maybe can feel it thro the steering it's normally a bush off somewhere even new ones fail .
It's all ready been said but get a bar or big screw driver and check for play in the suspension Thumbs Up
