The tabs on the back of mine seemed to be a bit on the big side to allow it to clip in correctly. I trimmed them a bit with a knife and hey presto, clipped in a treat.. Touch wood, it has been in for a year now and never fallen out. It makes a huge difference because it was driving me nucking futs bumping the old switch every time I was in the back.. Previously..

Tailgate Release Switch Cover (Thread resurrect)

Had my FF a year now , realizing I too was missing the switch cover ordered one via the "bay".

Took the black plastic trim strip off (6 screws + screw head covers), this made clipping it in place much easier.

A easy mod to do if yours is missing Thumbs Up .

Is this suitable for a 2005 L322 and does it simply slipper the existing button to protect it? "YYS" G4 FFRR

The underside has 4 "L" shaped retaining clips, 2 of them are thicker, locate those under the lip first that runs tround the cutout in the plastic trim, then do the same with the remaining 2.

As suggested above, and in the earlier postings, its a lot easier if you remove the black trim then you can see how the legs are locating on the plastic edge.

If its correctly fitted the surface on the fatter section around the car symbol should be sitting on your black trim with no gaps. See page 2 of this posting, there are a couple of very good pictures by "JustinP".

I never realised that LR went to the trouble of fitting a switch with a painted icon on it under the rubber! How pointless is that?

It was left over from the time BMW owned them. It is the same switch as fitted to the X5 !
