New member here. Looking to get into FFRR ownership imminently but completely torn with regards to which model.

Budget anywhere up to around £13k I'd say, so plenty of 4.2s and 3.6s available. Not so many 4.4s, but I have seen quite a few available with higher mileages. A couple in particular have caught my eye with one owner from new and full main dealer history but mileage on those are 150k and 200k which I imagine would be almost all motorway miles. Would you be worried about buying a 4.4 TDV8 with that sort of mileage on the clock?

Not sure at all what kind of mileage I'll be covering annually as I may start using the vehicle for work purposes (towing a small trailer up to around 1 ton in weight) - so my mileage could be 5k a year or it could be 20k a year.

The Supercharged 4.2 in terms of spec is great but I'm getting slightly worried about running a vehicle that would rival a Boeing 747 in terms of fuel consumption. I read LPG isn't a great solution for this particular engine?

Would welcome advice from the knowledgeable members here as I'm stuck.

Depends what mileage you do chap. If it's weekends and holidays, just get the 4.2 SC. As the owner of a 3.6 TDV8 i can testify to the silken murmuring and 30ish to the gallon of a refined diesel. Get what suits your lifestyle rather than anything else.

I think you should drive both then decide

Iv'e just changed from a 4.4 Petrol to the 3.6 TDV8 and i love it and so does my Wallet.

What do we think about the 4.4 TDV8 with 200k on the clock? Looks in good order and seems to have lived its life on the motorways. One owner from new and full Land Rover service history. Looks a lot of car for £10k - or best avoided?

Most folk on here would generally agree do not get hung up on mileage. Look at condition and history. The only issue is when you come to sell it, you are again having to rely on folk being sensible and not the OH MY IT'S DONE HOW MANY MILES club.

£10k for a 4.4 TDV8 is very cheap. Even a very high miler. __

Maintenance is king. I don't care if it's done 30k if the previous owner never fixed anything, never serviced it and used chip fat instead of proper diesel. Much better to get a well loved and pampered car.

4.4 TDV8 all day for me...but I’m biased.....

Never been in a Supercharged though.

Drive them all to narrow it down....then decide from there.....

No question - 4.4 Tdv8, the 8 speed box is very high geared in 8th and let’s the engine tick over at 2k revs at 100 mph.
200k motorway miles for a well maintained 4.4 tdv8 is nothing.

It’s probablly the same equivalent as 100k miles in a euro box car - doing 100k at 4K revs on the motorway - which wouldn’t phase most buyers in this price and age bracket 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

This is from my LR Incontrol App with a 4.4TDV8 with brisk driving! Granted it’s a L405, but I got almost the same mpg from my L322 4.4 TDV8

Yes ant they do like fuel

They certainly do. The very best I've seen from my 3.6 TDV8 is 35 mpg, but it was on a 4am drive with the cruise control set at 60 mph all the way from Leicester to London.
