Hi I have a 2002 4.4 L322 with 130K on clock, have been trawling the site for further info, is there a list of preventive tasks I should carry out before putting the RR on the road at the end of month?

These are the Items on my list:
Replacing the thermostat with a lower temp one.
Transmission oil change and flush.
Engine oil change, next diffs and transfer box oil
Flush power steer fluid

Any suggestions on the below items

A. heater blower motor does not work
B. N/s mirror glass angle not correct so cant see the side of car even using adjustment?
C. Rocker covers look ok what parts of PVC system would be best to clean or renew?
D. Would I have a need for an IID tool for a 2002 L322 for future diagnosis, I have also have a base Discovery 3, will IID tool work on both cars?

Just on A it may need a new final stage resistor, a well known weakness. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I have a 2003 V8 and I’ve found the IIDtool to be indispensable, one thing to check would be the battery as these vehicles are very voltage sensitive and another, which is tied to the first, is to check the alternator output as they do sometimes give up the ghost.

Mine was putting out 13.3v at tickover which at first glance would seem ok but these need an output of at least 14.1 - 14.4v to keep everything running happily, as a result of the 13.3v I was experiencing some odd faults but I swapped the alternator over and it’s been fine ever since.

Number one on my checklist is the radiator - the gearbox is cooled by the bottom 9 or so rows of fins on the radiator - if this gets sludged up (which they do) then the gearbox oil cooler also sludges up and prevents the gearbox cooling properly.


B could be the mirror stuck in reversing mode - which happens if the mirror adjust selector is set to passenger and you engage reverse the mirror will dip.

PCV system - check the rubber hoses running along the back of the engine into the PCV valve with the plastic engine cover off - if these are breaking down they will feel horrible and squishy. The PCV valve can also get gummed up - worth replacing if replacing the 2 main rubber hoses (also 2 smaller hoses often need done too) - plenty of info in the wiki as to how to do. Current Fleet:-

IID would work on both but you would need an extra licence for the second vehicle for many of the features. A low cost alternative is the iCarsoft. It's nowhere near as capable (it can only read and clear faults) or easy to use but it's about a fifth of the price. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

You will need an IIDTool.

Brilliant info just what i needed the car has had a new rad and water pump, however i will defo remove and reverse flush, as i need to replace fan shroud due to a big crack in top corner covered with black duct tape (probably got damaged when the previous owner replaced water pump)
And will look into obtaining an IID tool

That could be the answer actually because when I drained it down it did have pink antifreeze in, and eurocarparts do sell pink oat antifreeze. ______________________________

Timing chain and guides if not done already are prone to failure and I believe the LPG converted models fail earlier but that’s just my opinion.
